Rank the five toughest sports
I was having a few beers with a friend and we somehow stumbled upon the subject. It's fair to say that anybody performing at an elite level in any sport is worthy of a mention.
No right or wrong answer. #1 being the hardest
Here's my selection:
1. Boxing
2. Rugby
3. Ice hockey
4. Soccer
5. Football

Isle Of Man TT (the bikes are much faster since the event started and the buildings,walls,trees,...etc have not gotten softer.)
Surfing the BIG waves(Crushed, brains bashed out, drowning, eaten by fish,...etc.)
Bull Riding (1200+ pound bull, squeeze it's genitalia, hit it with a Taser, hop on it and try and ride it,oh and the bull has horns as well.)
Street Luge(90+ mph on a skate board.)
Iditarod race(very dangerous, especially if you're one of the dogs.)

1. Soccer. Conditioning has to be insane. You never see a fat guy playing!
2. Football. I played (like many have) very demanding and difficult. Not for everyone.
3. Boxing/MMA. Both require elite skill to have success. Must be dedicated to participate.
4. Tennis. Conditioning again a factor, also ability to hit the ball accurately.
5. Hockey. Skill to skate and control a small puck. Plus you have to be able fight sometimes

Women's basketball tops them all. As far as toughest sports go, tennis has to be up there. You hear more pro tennis players say they hate tennis than any other professional athlete and their sport. Maybe it's just a grind.
Ice hockey also takes a level of skill and coordination that I find hard to comprehend. Goalies are superhuman.

Youtube 'Hurling', its a good tough sport. 30 lads running about with sticks trying to hit a wee white ball. Always fighting going on. That's us Irish for ya!

They did a study a number of years ago- ranked the most physically demanding sports. I remember the first two well- 1)Motocross, 2) Soccer. Never really played soccer, but did the motocross thing when I was a teen, but I can quite believe it- try riding a real track for 30-40 minutes at a time.

I played softball for an Irish bar and we would have a pickup game of hurling before the softball game. Can't tell you how many times I debated swinging a bat knowing that my fresh wounds would hurt like hell a soon as I swung the bat. VERY violent sport.

I was gonna come here to post this. Most of the best riders retire by the time they hit their late 20's. It is a brutal sport.

you mean "toughest" in what sense?
I figure it to mean "grueling" with respect to physical.
1. Boxing
2. Rugby
3. Soccer
4. tri-athlete.
5.Hockey
Mentally:
1. Formula 1
2. golf
3. indy/nascar
after 3 ...it kinda falls off.
