The whole preview feels like a collage of people trying to be cool.

I just can't get past the lame "Evil Church lady hates Rock 'n Roll and wants to stop its influence over the youth and only the one true rock star can prove to her the power and greatness of freedom of expression can have on the world" angle.

I saw Rock of Age on Broadway last summer, and thoroughly enjoyed it.
However, I really don't see it transitioning all that well to the big screen.

The high schoolers will make this a cult classic starting next summer when it begins running quarterly on TBS for the next 10 years.

I haven't seen the movie or the musical, but I'm cynical about any musical that doesn't have any original music of its own and just strings together a bunch of covered pop hits and tries to build a convoluted plot around them.

Exactly, that's why i compare this to "Mamma Mia" instead of what i'd call a "musical" like "Chicago" or "Rocky Horror Picture Show"... What we are expected to believe is a plot, is just filler between regurgitated pop songs.
I dunno what i would call this concept, except unworthy of 2 hours of my life. Pass.

But enough making fun of him, I seen Collateral a few weeks back and was blown away at how good he was in that movie playing a psycho. Tom Cruise could be doing a lot better movies than what this looks like it is.

Say what you want about the man but he owned it in Collateral. Very underrated movie.

Exactly why I can't stand Glee, for example. A show that constantly covers top 10 hits and comes out with new "cast albums" all the time behind a splashy colorful backdrop has no real artistic integrity. It exists solely to make money and play it's key demographic like a fiddle.
