You know if I was single and no kids...I would probably do this.

I saw that video yesterday, and thought it interesting. Reminds me of whoever posted the video of the guy's apartment in Japan, where it was very small but all the walls could move to create the space you needed at the time. Very efficient.
There is a growing "small house" movement. People creating very efficient house designs that incorporate a lot of built-in storage and convertible spaces. Adorable little house plans you can find all over the internet. I do think they cater more to the single or childless couple consumers, like people whose kids are out of the house and they want to cut down on their junk and live simply and economically. It's probably a bit extreme for most people, but it makes you think about how much crap you actually need. Probably most of us, if we really got down to it, could fit all of our most precious belongings into our cars with room to spare. I mean the stuff that really counts to you.

Pretty cool. Slightly bigger than your average jail cell but definitely more efficient. I could do it if I planned on never reproducing or having anyone over.

I love the idea, but too small to live in for me. I would love to reduce my footprint, and my wife and I have already talked of doing so later in life. I do love the idea of a simple small space off of the grid, though.
I'm glad to see that there are some people out there downsizing their home sizes. I know for me, the bigger the house, the more junk I fill it with.

Same thing goes for houses, barns and sheds.

I grew up in a tiny (under 700 sq. ft.) house. My parents, me, anywhere from 2-4 dogs and multiple cats.
I will never live in a tiny house again.

There was a ton of hype about the Musician's Village stuff with Brad Pitt in the 9th Ward some time ago and I looked at some of their designs. They were all too weird in appearance, but the floor plans were pretty efficient. That 120 sq ft house isn't big enough for my wife to keep her shoes, but you've got to respect someone who can live in a small dorm room with $12 month in utilities.
I think they'd make awesome fish camps down at Port Eads if you floated them on barges and added a generator, kegerator and a grill.

I love to see these swings happen. We've been living in a conspicuous consumption environment for 30 years now. Everything we have has got to be bigger and better. That's why everyone drives an SUV and that's why half of America is sitting in a house that is too big and can't afford the payments and can't sell it. So then comes along a guy like this who designs the tiniest house you could possibly live in successfully and still call it a house. You have car companies all over the world trying to design the perfect tiny car. One extreme to the other.
I think the best part about this sort of extreme is that it may make a lot of people stop to think about how big a car you really need, or how big a house. Somebody told me the other day that if I had a one-room shack and a car that didn't run, I'd be richer than 95 percent of the people on the planet. I don't know how accurate that number is, but it's probably not far off. Anyhow, this guy's little house makes that shotgun houseplan I've been looking at seem like a mansion.
