Fire the OL coach
I'm sorry, but how much longer do we have to watch this line collapse around Brees and open zero holes for the running backs? They've played poorly in the run game for years, and all anyone does is blame the running backs. AP and LT couldn't get 1000 yards behind this line with the touches our backs get.

Our OC Marrone is supposed to be an offensive line specialist. We are averaging minus yards per carry. We are killing the team from the lack of ground game, can't keep the O on the field, or open up the play action.

I definitely agree. That is getting frustrating watchin no holes open up for the running backs.

even more frustrating is watching the defense getting into the backfield before the ball is handed off... it's stupid

Well, it worked out when Deuce was back there in '06. So maybe its partially our RBs fault? Or is Deuce just that good? I mean I know he is great...but...was he really making his own holes?

Why fire the oline coach? The front office has not given him a line that can run block. That is very discouraging knowing how many draft picks have been dedicated to offensive linemen the last 3 years.

You can't blame the offensive line coach. The since he has been the OLine coach, the Saints have given up the least amount of sacks. Drew Brees is a credit to this becuase he gets the ball out so quickly, but the problem we are having with the run game and passing game is that Payton relies too much on the dink and dunk. Against average defenses it looks great, but against a fast and physical defense, the approach is met and stopped for no yac/no gain.
The remedy is a physical running game between the tackles. I like Reggie fine, but when we are playing a physical defese, we need to match that physicality, in other words, run Pierre or Deuce between the tackles, and once the line gets in a rhythm from a commitment to the run game, you are able to set up a change of pace explosive run with Reggie. Once we start loosening up the defense, the play action starts working and you are able to go vertical with Shockey, Henderson, and Co. Once you start backing off the defense, then the dink and dunk will work.
Against average defenses, we can have our way and dictate what we will do. When we play a fast and physical defense though, we need to match that physicality with an interior running game to set up everything else we want to do, or else that fast and physical defense dictates what we can do,

The running game is not suffering to any dink and dunk, it's suffering because the line is good at standing around and stopping people from absolutely killing the QB, but horrible at actually moving people out of the way. This isn't a physical offensive line. It's an athletic one. That's why they keep on bringing in Div II OTs to play guard. But they are doing nothing to take advantage of that athleticism.

There are no seams, creases, holes etc for any back to hit and run through. We are averaging a whopping 2.4 yds p/carry today and that is NOT going to get it done. The lack of running game puts more pressure on Brees who is already w/o Colston. Where are Henderson and Meach today??? Don't tell me these guys still can't run routes, etc. If so, fire the darn WR coach too b/c he sure as heck has not been coaching this grp!
