Offense wins championships. Defense wins championships. Both oversimplifications. You need some balance somewhere.
The 49ers are a defensive team, but they had the offense to get it done, twice, in the last 4 minutes. The Saints had the greatest offense ever, but incapable of making a stop.
I see the Ravens-Patriots as a similar scenario.
A 49ers-Ravens Super Bowl wouldn't be an affirmation of "defense wins championships" although people will make it seem that way. What it would actually be is "you need some execution on both sides of the ball to win championships"
