Ant-virus problems
Anyone here use Vipre anti-virus software? I've been using it for two years anf have been pretty happy with it till last night. My computer started to slow down to the point that it was unusable. The icon in my tray told me Vipre had quit working and had been shut down. I thought I had a virus so I wanted to contact them but of course I couldn't get any customer service contact info because my computer wasn't working. (duh! never thought of that)
When I got home today I turned it on and got a message telling me that Vipre network problems had been solved. Sure enough Vipre was up and running the old 'puter was humming along and working great. Within minutes it (Vipre)went down again and my system was once again unusable. I rebooted and before it could crash again I unintalled it and installed AVG. Everything is back to normal now.
Anyone else having this problem. Vipre is one of the top rated programs out there. WT*?

I do not recommend you use AVG for your new antivirus. If you're going to go the free AV route, use Avira, Avast, or MSE. They're much more effective in preventing infections than AVG and use fewer system resources.

MSE for being low resource, yeah as in, if you only have 512mb or less. use MSSE.. sure.
carefull with avast 5, as it causes probs with windows genuine crap.
DON"T use Mcafee or Norton.... worse for you than getting a virus.

and odds are, if either of the 2 catches anything it would be sas..
but anyhow, not saying is the case here, but NEVER run more than 1 real time scanner..
at best, you will think its working fine and neither are doing anything.
other times both trying to work, and get nothing to work. as in blue screens, not even getting internet in safe with networking, nothing.
and yes, if using the realtime scanner for malwarebytes or sas.. can interfere. lucky if work right.

Any suggestions on a paid AV? I went with Vipre because it was highly rated at the time but the troubles I had completely turned me off to it. Plus since I went to AVG my browsing is much faster. Ive used McAfee, Norton and Vipre and all of them have slowed my system down and caused other problems.

kaspersky has gotten a lot better over the past couple years.
at least, see fewer systems having it that get infected.
Sophos, but that aint' in no way cheap.
another free option is clamwin
they all get infected by 1 thing that 1 of the others would catch.
and none of them fix the problem between the keyboard and chair that clicks on something, saying to let it install.

They run scans at different times of the week. They have caught stuff trying to get in.
