I am not attached to my phone, and don't really experiment with different models. I had a dirt old, broken down, Cingular flip phone until April of last year, when it finally said, "screw you, Paul", and died.
So, I got an iPhone Fo, and it's fine. All I really use it for is to talk, SR.com, and play games. I'm not much of a texter, and I still use my lap top computers for work and home.
I had my old phone for like 8 years, and I am going to drive this iPhone Fo to it's death as well.

That's funny because one of my complaints about the iPhone is that the screen is too small and far less practical.
I really, really want to like the Samsungs, but they feel like cheap plastic **** in may hands. I have a hard time getting past that. I have been a huge fan of HTC's devices and am an original EVO owner. I am a pretty heavy user and after an overnight charge it usually lasts until I get home at 7PM.
I was looking forward to the new EVO LTE until those ***holes decided to no longer make the battery removable. Just one feature shy of being the perfect smartphone. Now I'm actually seriously considering the S3, but it comes in white and blue. Who the **** makes phones in white and blue and not give a black option?

I've tried to like IPhones but I quickly realized that they are more of a fad. I guess they are easier to use for the non techy person to use but they are so boring to use for me and the screen was just too small so I had to get rid of it in favor of my S2 which has been an absolute great phone since the day I got it .I will definitely upgrade to the S3 when it arrives and look forward to it

It means he's a tech geek who likes to customize his phones. He's not a fan of out of box user experience.

He's not a tech snob if he thinks the iPhone is a fad. The only reason he has a phone to do his leet roms on is because of the iPhone.

Id like a replaceable/upgradeable battery.

I'm definitely with Android. I think the Iphone is a solid phone, but I want customization and freedom. My biggest complaint about Apple is their business practices. An example would be not offering MMS with their original Iphone and then making you buy a new phone to get that feature that just about every single cheap phone on the market already had. Most recent examples is Siri. You have to buy the 4s to get Siri, when all you have to do is download a free app on Android to get virtually the same exact thing. Cloud service has been out for awhile, but Apple markets it as though it's new when Android already had it. I was streaming music and video to my tv from my samsung phone 2 years ago.
Now 4g is being kept from Iphones and when they finally go to 4g, they will market it as though it's their brand new invention. If you're going to make me pay premium dollar for your product, then I want the best tech, period. I don't want to play the games of making me buy a new product every year to get the "latest" tech, when in reality, you just added old tech to a new phone model and told me its revolutionary.
As far as physical characteristics, I have big hands and like the phones with bigger screens. I like the 4.7 inch screen in the S3 and EVO LTE. Between those and the new Nexus that will come out in the fall for my next upgrade.

I've got a Galaxy SII Epic 4G Touch on Sprint, hands down best phone I've ever had. I can't leave the damn thing alone for more than 5 min, so I burn thru my battery pretty fast. No other complaints about it at all. The screen is gorgeous.

Android fragmentation
Quote:
I went back and found every Android phone shipped in the United States up through the middle of last year. I then tracked down every update that was released for each device – be it a major OS upgrade or a minor support patch – as well as prices and release & discontinuation dates. I compared these dates & versions to the currently shipping version of Android at the time. The resulting picture isn’t pretty – well, not for Android users.
Other than the original G1 and MyTouch, virtually all of the millions of phones represented by this chart are still under contract today.
If you thought that entitled you to some support, think again:
- 7 of the 18 Android phones never ran a current version of the OS.
- 12 of 18 only ran a current version of the OS for a matter of weeks or less.
- 10 of 18 were at least two major versions behind well within their two year contract period.
- 11 of 18 stopped getting any support updates less than a year after release.
- 13 of 18 stopped getting any support updates before they even stopped selling the device or very shortly thereafter.
- 15 of 18 don’t run Gingerbread, which shipped in December 2010.
- In a few weeks, when Ice Cream Sandwich comes out, every device on here will be another major version behind.
- At least 16 of 18 will almost certainly never get Ice Cream Sandwich.

It's because of this that I stopped obsessing about constantly flashing new ROM's. And I WAS OBSESSED. Owned 6 different Android phones.
I bought the newest phones constantly because they offered the best new ROM's, optomized for the fastest and best experience. I waited till XDA released their modded ROM's and installed those. I suffered through Samsung, HTC, Motorola, all placing custom embedded OS GUI's that slowed down every handset and then watched them abandon the handset because, frankly, there's no money in upgrading the model you bought six months ago. Force you to buy the new one or face the buggy MOD community.
After a while, it was too much chaos and not enough smooth user experience.
IOS was totally ****ing refreshing. And I ****ing HATE Apple.

The only thing comparable on that list is the Nexus, as it is pure Android. The update lag on other phones is a manufacturer issue, and not an Android issue. Part of how open source works for Android is they allow developers to tweak the phones with custom ROMS and what not. Staying one OS version behind does not affect your phone whatsoever. However, if you are obsessed over customization and having the newest version today, then there is that option. With Apple, there are no options. You get what you get. Google is taking steps to give people better options to go with a pure Android as well. There are rumors that they will have more pure Android phones being released across manufacturers in the near future, again, giving you more choices.
