I mean really how many people you gonna see walking around talking to their phone I've tried the S-Voice app on my S2 and frankly I would feel like an idiot doing that in public. People buy IPhones because they think its cool to have the little apple on the back of the phone. Sorry I'm just not a Fan I would take a high end Android phone 10 times over an Iphone.

Who are you calling People?
That's not why I got my iphone, but admittedly, I'm not very technically savvy.

I have a Galaxy 2 and I love it. My battery life is great and I have a lot more freedom with it than I'd have with an Iphone.

OK, so someone set me straight as to why ROM'ing is such a great thing? Full customization of your phone is nice but what does it do to separate itself as the sole reason why you would choose an open source (Android) opposed to closed (iOS). Again for my iPhone without even jail breaking it can project any documents through iWorks off my iCloud via AppleTV (Heck it can mirror image as well). It can run netflix, dropbox, text, have multiple email accounts through various servers mail sent directly to it, iMessage to other apple devices over wifi, skype, facetime, tango (lol did I miss any other video chat client?), push itunes to pretty much anything with airplay or attached to an airport express, siri with iOS6 (yes I know android already has this), and even runs my circuit simulation app (iCircuit). So again I can do all of this without even jail breaking it. So exactly why do I need to ROM? Make it look cuter? (Ok that was cheap shot jk)
My brother is a Droid freak and even now I don't really understand exactly what separates these phones to make Android fans so adamant about not wanting an iOS device.
Again a phone should call and text out!!! (Grandpaw voice) jk btw.
Droid fans help me out here.

-I like the fact that you can utilize different type of keyboard. Swype?
-Tasker allows you to automate things. The ability to schedule your phone to turn on certain settings, apps, radios, and do certain tasks depending on your location, time, and whatever conditions you come up with is pretty cool.
-Launcher/Homescreen customization. While it's not everyone's cup of tea, there are some really cool things people do with these droids.
-Widgets. It's nice to have apps give you information without having to open the apps.. All the information are on screen and convenient. And the variety are endless.
-Removable Storage and Battery..
-Wireless app installations! You can set up installation of apps from your home pc and have your phone download the apps. Not having to browse thousands of apps on the handheld makes it fun for me to browse through the market through my work PC and set up downloads without having to reach for my phone.
-Custom Rom. It's not for everyone. Some People are happy with the out of box user experience.
-Controlling your phone from your computer. There are apps that allows you to send text or access certain functions from your pc browser. It's not VNCing either.
-flash.
-app integration. Google voice.
-I like Androids notification system better.
-Wireless tethering. Sure you can tether using ios, but I can use my. Phone as an access point when I'm on vacation with the family. 4gLTE anyone?
-Google Navigation. This is one thing I love. I use it very often on vacation.
These things might be useless to you but to a lot of Android fans, they are important.

And the main reason I stay far away from apple is the exclusivity and lack of customization. It's their way or the highway. And that annoys me.

No, of course you don't make calls with the iPad, but having experienced the "Apple way" with the iPad I have, I don't prefer to get involved with the annoyances you and I mentioned with something as vital as my phone.
I think you and I were pretty much saying the same thing....

Thanks for the education, I can see why some features may be more enticing to someone looking for an open source (Droid) phone.
-The new iPhone should have 4G hotspot (of course with a data plan) enabled as the new iPad already does.
-I believe all the way until iOS6 launches, apple was using a version of googles maps on their phones , not entirely to sure on that.
-OK OK I admit the jumping mario on my brothers Droid X is pretty cool lol.
- About the whole flash thing, im going to do a little more research, but from what I've learned in a few of my comp sci courses is that most of the internet is moving toward html 5 if not already there. Also, there was a rumor that Adobe was making a flash player for iOS devices, never really knew what happened with that.
Again thanks for the information!!!!
Oh also icloud integration on mac and pc versions of safari when Mountain Lion is released so you can dl apps and music on your home based machine and they will appear in your purchase log on your phone to be downloaded or auto dl'ed if you allow that feature.

All of the things you listed that the iPhone does are things that other phones can do as well. You can check out Allshare for Samsung and see that you can integrate everything from your tv, laptop, phone, dvd player and so on wirelessly. This has been around for years. Also, you don't need custom ROMs to do all of these things. It's standard.
It is my opinion that a lot of iPhone users don't understand Android. That is where some of the tension from comes from. So you get Android users who are looking at their phones and they know for sure that their phone does everything and iPhone does and more. Even without a custom ROM.
It's also my opinion that the iPhone is a solid phone and I don't knock anyone who chooses it over an Android phone. We all have a preference. But I do have a problem when someone says iPhones are better hands down and don't have a valid argument for their statement.
