Help the uninformed!

I just purchased a wireless router for my home. I did so because Santa Claus brought two iPod touches for the kiddos....and the wifi allows them to text can do other cool stuff on their gadgets.

Anyhoo, I my router hooked up via ethernet and my desktop also hooked by ethernet (I think the router is hooked fiirst - they are in very close proximity). My desktop does not have a wireless card.

My question is this....is my desktop on my home network??? I do not own a laptop to check it out. Do you need a wireless card to put your desktop stuff on your home network?

let me see if i understand this right:

internet (cable/dsl/etc) is hooked up directly to router via ethernet and the desktop is connected via ethernet to the router?

if so, this is a valid setup, and yes, your desktop is on the network (providing there isn't an odd setting or two that has been changed in configuration on the router or desktop).

I'm not at home, so I don't know the exact sequence....but from the back of my modem, the ethernet line hooks up to the router....then from the router, another ethernet line hooks directly to my computer. It's possible it goes to the computer first.....but I think it hooks up to the router first, then the desktop. There's no "out" from my computer back to the router though.

I thought it might be possible for my desktop to "talk" with the router thru the one, stand alone ethernet line. I don't know....hence, the post!

Haha. Yes it sounds as if the desktop should be OK.
