PDFs freeze via network access

We use many large PDFs for aircraft manuals. They are hosted on a Windows 2003 server. We do it this way to keep it centrally updated. The problem we are facing is that the PDFs will open and work for 5-10 minutes, then Adobe, Foxit, etc will lock up. It is looking as if the server is killing access to the file. I have looked, but cannot find if it is actually doing this.

Any idea?

Man there could be many, many things at play the first thing I would ask is about file and share level access. Are you editing these documents or just viewing with Acrobat?

I found this hotfix. I am testing it.

Mapped Drive Connection to Network Share May Be Lost

Mapped Drive Connection to Network Share May Be Lost
This behavior occurs because the systems can drop idle connections after a specified time-out period (by default, 15 minutes) to prevent wasting server resources on unused sessions. The connection can be re-established very quickly, if required.

Didn't fix it.

It's only PDFs that freeze. It's happening on Windows XP / Adobe Reader X. Hotfix was applied. Quit scrolling the PDF after 5-10 minutes and it locks up the program. Happens on multiple computers.

Server 2003.
