Jindal administration using convention center money to offset deep cuts
We don't need taxes... We'll just cut, cut, cut... Then we'll take money from other areas to close the gap, even if the funding is only available for one year. Great, long-term thinking there, Bobby.

His $24.7 billion spending proposal would get $100 million from the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center in New Orleans.
Much of the money was set aside to build phase four of the sprawling facility along the riverfront.
"That is a state entity," said Jindal. "They've got $170 million in reserves. This is above and beyond the money they use for operations."
State Rep. Jared Brossett, D-New Orleans, calls it a money grab.
"It should not be taken and used for the state general fund," said Brossett. "I disagree with their raiding of the fund. It's a problem all over the state what the governor is doing as it relates to this budget."

Raid every trust fund and misappropriate any available funds in order to make the argument that he cut taxes and cut spending.
State of Louisiana be damned.
Jindal wants to be POTUS.

Then he's certainly going about it the wrong way. The rest of the country can't stand him; and, at this point, his own state is even vehemently against him. How can you expect to overcome your national perception when your home state will only talk about how horrible you were?

This is definitely becoming a surprise to a lot of people who thought he was the next best thing to slice bread. Jindal has stabbed some of his strongest supporters, especially in the legislature, in their backs with a lot of latest moves. He's looking at a major budget fight this time around IMO.

Deep cuts in higher education, healthcare, and mental health services perpetuates continual ignorance, sickness, and mental instability keeps all the worker ants on the plantations and in the factories.
It's not just about "saving money" or "fiscal conservatism"--it's about perpetuating and antiquated economic and political system that more resembles the late 19th century.

Sadly there are probably STILL people who think he is a good governor, or better than Blanco. To be honest at this point I think he has done a worse job and been worse for the state than Foster.

Can you take the time to READ the article before ripping the administration? Jindel is trying to prevent deep cuts in higher ed by grabbing the Convention Center monies, monies they will get in return in the capital outlay. Have you ever seen the convention center not get what it wanted? Take a look down there. It's a damn city of its own.
Hey, you and the other leftists on this list are free to donate more of your tax monies to the state.

Do you know why deep cuts were needed in the first place?
It's because he swept in and cut taxes in a such a manner that we have not seen any real benefit from and that he had no plans in regards to how to pay it. In 2008 he cut income tax for the wealthiest by the largest amount in state history. With zero ideas on where the money would come from to meet the shortfall.
He managed to take a budget surplus and turn it into a deficit all without seeing any real improvement in anything meaningful.
Conservatives and Liberals have a problem with the way Jindal is behaving with out budget and our monies.

Jindal said the Republican party needs to eliminate the stupid. Ironically, it's kind of stupid that he thinks the base of the party is ready to vote for an Indian-American even if he weren't using these kinds of smoke and mirrors. Rick Perry got shrugged off for less as one of their own.

You pretty much only get chosen to respond to SOTU (or Jindal's was technically to a joint address) if you're considered as a potential future candidate for POTUS in some way. I doubt his ambitions have become smaller. Will he actually run? Maybe not, but it's certainly reasonable to see that as his aim.

Obviously you haven't read the entire article. His promise that the monies would be returned is false. The convention center is not guaranteed to get the funds returned due the other projects and priorities in the state's pipeline.

Jindal has no shot at the Presidency. What's he going to run on? His 37% approval rating in the state? The constant budget shortfalls that have happened during his tenure? His complete destruction of higher education and healthcare? Major parts of his education reform being ruled unconstitutional? Alienating the state senators and reps in his own party (seriously, there is some BAD blood between the legislature and Jindal. And I'm talking his own party.)? He can cruise around the country and talk about reforming the GOP all he wants, but he has absolutely ZERO successes at the state level to point to and say "I will do that for America." He's left this state in worse shape than he found it in several areas. The guy is an ego maniacal joke who has sacrificed this state for a delusion of grandeur.

You do realize that the reason he's trying to avoid higher ed cuts is because there's basically nothing left to cut, right? He's eviscerated the UL system. At this point his only option would probably be to outright close one of the colleges, which the economic impact reports have pretty universally stated would be disastrous for their communities. This isn't some act of benevolence on his part, it's the realization that there's no more water to be taken from that well. But at least I have finally discovered a member of the mythical 37%. You're literally the first person I've seen or heard take up for Jindal in a long time. The guy has lost his electorate.
