Loose change in couch alert
Good grief, have we lost all pride when it comes to fundraising?

How is this different than a person getting cash for a gift and donating it themselves?
It's not something I would ask for, but not everyone can afford to donate to the candidate of their choosing..

Tacky.
Then again, one man's tacky is another man's treasure.

I'm split on this. My gut tells me tacky but on the other hand I prefer pandering for the common mans dollars than big banks or unions (or big oil and defense contractors on the other side). Not that he won't be begging for their money too but if $10,000 a plate meals for the privileged is OK why not this?
Still I wouldn't do it. Just feels kind of creepy.

It is a little tacky, that's true.
But if the person receiving the gift wants their money donated to the Obama campaign, what is the big deal?

It's all distasteful to me, large and small, which is one reason I gave up my interest in politics.
I worked in a congressional campaign in 1978 that used Richard Viguerie's fundraising apparatus to raise money from all over the country. The saddest thing was receiving a $5 donation with a scribbled note, obviously written by an elderly person, saying how this was all they could afford to give and "God bless you."
When a fat cat gives $10k, it hardly stings him or her. A person on a fixed income giving their last five bucks, that hurts. It's touching and awful at the same time.
Or creepy, as you point out.

What a lovely idea... Inject politics into your big day with your partner.
On the other hand this is brilliant. Seeing that he recently said he supports same sex marriage. I can see lots of donations coming from gay couples who are getting married this election season.

Glad to see you type that Champ. Now, pick the cookie cutter up move over to taxes....and...press.
I don't like this and I would never do it as a gift to my friends.

Not much different than asking people to donate to someones favorite charity in lieu of flowers at a funeral etc. IMHO
