I'm pretty sick now too.
GW should be done. In the nfl, high school, even pee wees. Motivating your team is one thing, but encouraging maliciousness goes beyond the line. As a player it's breed in you to hit the opponent with everything you have, there's no thought in that, but you're not going at it with the intent to end someone's career, that ain't cool. GW is a punk. And if Payton was in the room for this he deserves to be punished to the full extent too.
As with most jobs you do what your boss says because your future depends on it. Yes these Are grown men but they're barely grown men. Their future depends on having a coach who will continue giving them a job or keeping them in the starting lineup. Loyality and buying into thr system keeps food on some of these players table. Hopefully GWs audio will get some of the players off the hook.
I've been a saints fan all my life and will be beyond the current team. But can really blame players for doing what they're told to do?
Thank god and GW and Payton they won a super bowl cuz if haslett did the same thing people wouldnt be defending them.
Press reset and start over.
Who dat!

Have you ever played football?
I ask because everyone I know that has played football at at least the high school level, has heard a very similar speech. Most people I know have been taught to clean up around the piles as well (Hit people standing around it before the whistle blows), as well as everyone I know understanding that being on the bottom of a pile tends to lead to lots bruises and other things that don't happen outside of the pile.
For that matter, lots of things go down in the trenches during the course of a play that never even get noticed by anyone other than the opposing lines. It's part of the game, it's been part of the game, whether it remains to be part of the game or not remains to be seen however.
It might not make it right, but this issue goes far beyond Gregg Williams and the speech we heard today.

Are you saying they played with the intent of re-injuring the ACL?

oh the irony of this thread...
when you all first heard about bounty gate you wanted to "embrace" the "dark side" of the Saints...
but you are right, GW is a idiot. needing to take out key players just shows your defense is not good enough to play them

My high school coaches said much worse than what GW said on that audio. But it stayed in the locker room. We knew that we were a family and what happened in the locker room stayed there. In that regard we were men. We didn't go whining to our parents or call the local paper to tell them what coach said. Why is this such a hard concept to grasp?

Don't speak for everyone, I'm still thoroughly behind the "embrace the dark side" idea.
What do you think made that Bucs defense such a good and feared one back in '02 for example? It wasn't because they were out there playing patty cake with the other team for 4 quarters.

LMAO is this like a serious post?
Are you trying to imply that any good defense the NFL has ever had was bounty related?
Has it ever occurred to you that maybe they just had a very elite group of players consisting of 4 hall of famers and lead by a hall of fame defensive coordinator?

I agree with you man, but it would seem that a lot of people just don't get it. The culture of the sport is that of "modern day gladiators" especially amongst lineman but it goes throughout the whole team.
Even though Defense is technically just that, they're really attacking the offensive players each and every play.
To add to what you said, there were definitely some things my coaches said to us that if repeated to my parents would have got me a nice smack right on the back of the head at the least.

Nothing to do with bounties, and Gregg doesn't reference the bounties in that audio either. The only reference to bounties comes from ESPN reporting that Pamphillon said "Williams held his hand up to his chin and made a money sign, when referring to Alex Smith's chin". As far as I'm concerned that's nothing more than hearsay from someone who, in my opinion, has ruined his own credibility by leaking this audio when it was supposed to be for a documentary he was doing for a man who's gone through quite a bit of crap in recent times.
No what I meant was that your defense back then hit people hard and thus put fear into them, which created turnovers, hell John Lynch wouldn't have been too feared without the big hit. Not to mention Sapp getting licks in on people every chance he could. They were definitely elite players, but they were elite because they did their job and hit people as hard as they could. Furthermore how do you know what speeches that Hall of Fame DC used?

yep. half of what my coaches said in high school make gw's speech sound like the intro to barney. now, listening to the whole audio makes you shake your head at a few of the things he said, but realistically, how much would it bother you if this was before the "scandal"? me, not at all. so when i thought about that, it doesn't bother me now either.

It's a "rip their heads off and shot down their necks" speech... Stop acting like you don't know. If you didn't know maybe you should just stay oblivious.... You'd be happier

well in the audio he did keep saying to take out, gore AKA the head, I dont think he meant tackle when he said take out
and yes bucs 02 did hit hard, but its a big difference when you hit someone because its how you play, then when you hit someone in their sweet spot because you want to get paid
