To see some of them "okay" with what happened and crying about the punishment is ridiculous. You guys got off easy IMO.

To come here and call an entire fanbase Pathetic shows a true lack of class..
It's cute watching all these people who never played football get butthurt over that pregame meeting speech.. I heard worse than that in high school....

Hey the rabbit hole is deep. You want to complain.. Then by all means take jack lambert out the hall. Take anyone apart of the steel curtain defense our the hall. I guarantee that there were bounties in the past. If you want to have a steroid-like era where everyone questions then bring it on.. Half of the stories that pop up now is from fans.

You seem the most intelligent of the bunch, so you disagree with your team being punished? What GW said is no big deal to you eh? It's sad because you guys didn't need to play like this to win. I'll always wonder how good you really were had you played by the rules.

As I said, lot of classy posters around here, LOL, they just haven't shown up yet.
I was looking for an intelligent discussion, I'll come back later when the varsity guys get here.
I mean telling players to go after ACL's and so on? Going after guys with recent injuries and trying to illegally put them out of the game? All so you can "win"?
Of course had someone paid 100k to take Brees down and bust his knees after a whistle you guys would still be crying. And deservedly so.
As is the ring is probably no longer going to count, like college football the NFL is going to take away the Lombardi, back to the Bucs as the only NFC South team with hardware.
Carry on.

The ironic part is that had we actually done any of the things Greg Williams said in his tirade, we probably could have won. But on the field, our players did none of that and we lost. Never has the saying that "perception is reality" been more true.
The amount of piling on has reached a ridiculous level. This morning I would driving into work listening to a nationally syndicated fox sports radio and the host poll question was, "If your team got caught cheating, would you still root for them?"

If someone wants to come here and have intelligent discussions on a particular subject, that's fine. But ending his OP with "you got off easy" isn't going to sit well with a lot of fans. I guess you just can't see that because you're :aboveitall: and a :realfanz:, right?

This thread is fun
OP doesn't even know he's being outtrolled because we already have a 20 page thread about this 24-hour old news
Bet he doesn't even notice this post and keeps digging. Carry on...

I'm a proud poster here, but the only thing that I have a problem with was how the fans jumped on the PT hit in the SF game and think what GW did was minor. We really can't have it both ways. Seems like a bunch of us want a violent dirty game only when it's done by our players. That I have a problem with!

I guess if a high school coach yells at his kids in the locker room that they are getting killed out there.. He must really have fear that someone is gonna die on the field..

After this I wouldn't root for the Saints if I had been a fan. And actually my 2nd home is in Biloxi so the Saints were kind of my 2nd team, that's why I joined this board and read it for years. I'm embarrassed now I ever rooted for this team.
People keep bringing me up, what does my athleticism have to do with anything? If you must know though I was an all-state in 3 sports, hoops, bases and football. And never, not once did we have to illegally try and hurt the other team to win.
Can't believe football is so big in your life that you have no standards. No morals. If this happened to my team I would be done. I wouldn't want my kids to see the kind of trash I was cheering for. You guys got off light (so far), I think more is coming.

Find me one, just one, case where a Saints player went after a guy after the whistle and blew out his knee. Find me one case where a guy was carted off. Find me some illegal hits to cause injuries. We've been over this before over here. Over the Greg Williams era the Saints had 0 suspensions for hits, and were not the top team in fines in ANY year he was here. Every play is officiated, and every play is reveiwed by the league- these illegal hits going for ACLs and spearing them on the ground- it simply didn't happen.
What Greg Williams said went a little far, yes- I think we'll all agree on that, but no one took it seriously and injured someone.
Also, where is the outrage that the Giants did the exact same thing the following week and bragged about it?

I see very few people on here actually defending GW. But what you fail to accept is that whatever crap he spewed in the pre-game speech was not taken literally by the players and was not carried out on the field. No one on the 49ers was hurt by a cheap shot. On the contrary, our running back was the one who had to be taken off the field after a vicious helmet to helmet hit.
Most here are upset about the severity of the punishments, which are clearly excessive. You may think we got off easy, but you're wrong and entitled to that opinion.
As for the thought of the NFL taking away the Lombardi, if believing that makes you sleep better at night, then I wish you sweet dreams.

This may have already been said, but if Payton was truly warned the week prior and allowed a documentary filmmaker into the defensive meetings; isn't it safe to assume that he thought the problem had been addressed? GW is looking more and more like a loon in this story.

I am not surprised, and I won't defend that kinda talk. Because I do not care enough too. They are harsh words, and thats the kinda guy Williams is. He has always talked tough like that in every interview I have heard from him "Cut the head off, and it dies" sorta speeches are common from that mans tounge. He has been doing it for well over a decade on 1/3 of the leagues teams. Harsh words from a guy holding a clipboard to try to fire his guys up. If we went out there an acted in that fashion, please by all means show it.
I honestly really don't care what comes out and will think we are being made example of, unless I am shown some proof of us intentionally hurting people. I think the game is played entirely to fast to to even single out guys like this. If Kyle Williams is flying up the sideline you are not thinking of what any coach said 3 hours ago in some meeting. Your positioning yourself and think how am I going to get him on the ground. The tough talk is just that, Talk.
