Question N/S Niners or Texans Defense?

I know this isn't Saints related, well I guess it kinda could be but I just wanted to hear some opinions on this. Right now IMO the 49ers and Texans have the two best defenses in the NFL. The Ravens and Steelers are up there too of course but since Terrell Suggs might be out for the whole year and Troy Polamalu who is a huge part of the Steelers D has lost some steps the last couple of years the Niners and Texans were the two obvious choices to me.

Now to my main question, who do you guys think is the best? I was talking to one of my friends about this and we had a pretty good debate. I said 49ers and he said Texans, I wasn't surprised because he's a Texans fan lol, but it's still a good argument. I went with the Niners because it's nearly impossible to consistently run on them and this one is a little closer but I think they have a better pass defense. If you stack them up position by position and starter by starter they're pretty damn near even. Just wanted to hear some other opinions on this, of course I'll take our offense against anyone and we put 30 plus points on both of them last year but to make it Saints related if you had to choose one to go up against at their place this upcoming season in a must win game who would it be?

Based on last years play, the Niners defense and the Ravens defense are better than the Texans defense. They're all tough to run on but the Niners and Ravens have better secondaries.

Niners. Texans defense is pretty good, but 6 games in the afc south helped them pad their stats a little.

Eh, the Ravens D is definitely no slouch but Ed Reed and Ray Lewis don't put the fear in me that they used to, I'd rather go up against them this coming up year than the Texans D that is less experienced but younger and faster IMO and gonna be going under it's second year with Wade, honestly I think we would tear up the Ravens D

I would give the secondary edge to the Texans and give the front 7 edge to the Niners. Yeah, the Niners had 2 pro bowlers in their secondary, but I think their success was more of a result of the ability of our front 7. Last year they were very opportunistic though. As for which is the best, I'll have a homer opinion so I'll just keep it to myself lol.

Imagine your offense with the Niner defense on the same team. Free Super Bowls for the next 5 years imo.

not a nominee for tops in the league but....

heres an out there one that might show up with a big rebound next year like the Texans did last year. like the texans awful secondary, this team couldnt get ANY pressure after the first few weeks, and it was a fatal flaw. they did a lot to fix that flaw and may see a huge turnaround likewise.

**Swapped coordinators from a guy that was pretty green running players out of position to an experienced DC with a scheme that fits his players

**Added one DE that is absolutely premiere, and a second that had 10 sacks last year, and returning an oft-injured premiere pass rusher that finally had a "successful" surgury that he had been avoiding.

**Returning from injury a former probowl DT with a rookie that played great entering his second year

**Added a top 10 corner to a secondary that normally plays pretty well and includes a former DROY at safety

I think that if healthy the buffalo bills new look defensive line has the potential to make the whole squad look VERY good. starting four being mario williams (nuff said), Kyle williams (probowl DT), Marcell Dareus (3rd pick and successful rookie) and Mark anderson (10 sack season last year). with rotations off the bench of a solid vet in Kelsay, and IF (biiiiiig IF) healthy shawne merriman in a situational pass rush role.

I like the secondary a lot - Gilmore (top ten pick), george wilson (dependable vet playmaker), jairus byrd (young and a game changer), and McGee (very dependable vet when healthy, with Aaron williams at nickel)

the real question mark is the LB'ers. was hard to gauge them in last years 34 behind a beat up line with awful scheme, and DTs being put at OLB.... Morrison and barnett have had a lot of success though.

The Bills running a 4-3 or 3-4? Haven't seen them much tbh. The addition of Mario Williams will be big because that guy is one man pass rush. Another sleeper defense imo will be Seattle. Their LBs aren't that good but their line is and their secondary could be one of the best.

Texans defense almost single handedly beat Baltimore. I don't look at Baltimore's D to be any better when they almost lost to a 3rd string QB that was very desperate to play his possibly final NFL game as a starter.

All 3 of those teams are strong defenses and weak offenses. Match up equally against one another, but I am taking the Niners defense, cause they beat us with turnovers and totally limiting our running game.
