First, allow me to say I loathe the following scenario. But I think this is how it will go down.
Right now, both sides are playing a sort of game of chicken. First to blink, loses. They will decide to come to the table sometime around July 1, giving them two weeks, more or less, to come to a deal. It will be sort of like last year's CBA talks. Nothing happened until the eleventh hour, no talks, nothing.
The two sides will come together to talk and work out a deal in which both sides give a little and both get a little. Unfortunately, that's how it works. There's no strong desire to sign anything--or talk for that matter--until both sides need the deal to happen.
I hate it, too, but that's how it will go down.

the only reason people are getting antsy about this is because Deke Bolivia and people at WWL talk about it every day. When Drew starts to miss TC, then we should worry. They have an offseason for a reason. It's not like Drew's sitting at home every day in his boxers eating a box of doughnuts.

There is one important fact that favors Brees next year, if he sits out this year, and that is that the Saints can't use the exclusive rights tag next year, and he is free to entertain offers from other teams. I don't think you are correct that it doesn't count as a year, it does count as a year under the tag even if he doesn't play.

From everything I've read, and that's a lot, it counted as a year under the old CBA but doesn't count under this CBA. The players really did give up the farm to get the extra percentage in revenue.

This is wrong. Page 51 of the CBA very clearly says if a player sits out a year the team may again franchise tag the player, but ONLY with a non-exclusive tag... which means Drew would be free to negotiate with another team and the Saints must either match the offer, or lose him.

Benson said they were close. I wouldn't be surprised if they are 40M apart in guaranteed money. If Brees puts his house on the market, we will know Loomis lost, and Brees is moving back to Texas.

At this point how Drew feels about this organization is all that matters. It's no longer about pure money. If he feels disrespected enough (now we all know loomis has been insisting paying him as a top 5 QB) and loomis wont budge then he will perhaps sit out. And that is as good as goodbye. There's no way Saints can (nor will) match what other teams would offer next season.

The deal will get done and brees will be one of if not the highest paid qb in the nfl. Loomis knows what he is doing.

Wrong, not having a great QB is how you end up as a ***** franchise. Taking huge risks on unknowns is how you can set your Franchise back. Drew is not an unknown and easily a top 3 QB. How does a Saints fan not know this?

no you are wrong. it is not as easy as giving brees a blank check, it all has to work within the nfl cap rules and we also need money to sign/re-sign players BEYOND this year. brees is 33 years old, giving him whatever he wants will significantly effect the types of players we can sign in the FUTURE. what good does it do having brees when we cant afford to pay anyone for him to throw it to, or to have even an average defense. we went 7-9 and 8-8 with drew before because we didnt have enough talent on the defensive of the ball. that is the same thing that will happen if we overpay. how does an nfl fan not understand the salary cap and how it effects signing players?

Folks assume Dallas and Washington have some huge budget to spend but the same cap rules apply to them to. This isn't major league baseball. If a team is willing to commit all it's assets toward a QB, that's all they will have....even the highest grossing teams.
