But he'll sure come to his boy Ben's defense if anyone starts bringing up alleged rape charges. Tool.

It's bad when the other ESPN analysts are trying to bring you back to reality.

This is nothing new for Hoge. I remember how critical he was about the team during Katrina; making comments like there will be no one around to go to the games so why stay in NO, etc. I can't stand to watch the guy period. He mouths off, incoherent most of the time, and has always been critical of the Saints.

I just watched NFL32 and with Parcells declining in the news, the subject was the HC position. A round table discussion with 4 people quickly went into a tirade by Hoge where he says that this is the ugliest thing to happen to Saints and they should immediately fire Payton and start new. When the other people including Herm Edwards where kinda surprised and spoke of Paytons success, Hoge answers that it was Payton that fired himself, and he is tired of hearing about salary Payton will lose, that there is no guarantee Payton is even coming back because Goodell laid out guidlines in the past during bounty scandal and Payton was unwilling to follow through, so it was time for Saints brass to start replacing people and continue new.
When they pointed out that the coaching pool is small since it happened in March, Hoge insisted people are still available and pointed to Herm. Herm Edwarrds told him to pretend he is Saints making the call, then Edwards pretends to answer phone and say "No thanks, I got the best job in the world already" ( I think Edwards was trying to make the point that anyone that takes the job knows its Payton's team and will be just a year).
At this point the lady in the group continues to urge them to change to next subject like she has already many times and then Hoge continues with bringing up the language used in the recording and says he never heard anything like that and said if he was in a meeting like that, he as a player would have told someone, etc. Everyone else agrees to sitting in on speeches of similiar style with same metaphors (take out the head), and basically call him on it. They finally move on to next subject as Hoge is still protesting he has never heard the use of such language and specifically the kill the head metaphor.
What is up with Merrill Hoge!? Did Payton take his lunch money when they where in high school?

I actually think pretty well of Hoge analyst- oh well

Does anyone on this board think that the "kill the head" remark was anything more than a metaphor?
This is so stupid!

Hoge needs to be fired.
And I thought he liked the Saints too.

This guy is an idiot. He's always bringing up points that get fan bases in an uproar. He knows it causes drama, and therefore more attention on him self.

to be fair, hoge advocated that the bills cut stevie johnson after the celebration penalty against the jets last year.
he did not mean let him walk at the end of the contract, but was in fact saying the team was dumb for letting him show up at the facilities the next day.
i think this is more of a loose screw in his head than it is a matter of hating SP
