Fishing spots in New Orleans in and around Lake Pontchatrain

My cousin just got a boat and we are looking for some fishing spots in and around Lake Pontchatrain. Any input would be much appreciated.

a couple of options:
1. Hopedale is a solid option, but a long ride ( 1.5 hrs from new orleans )
2. Chef pass is a good producer in the summer and is close to new orleans ( 1/2 hour )
3. You could hit Manchac if you are looking for fresh water.

Looking to target anything in particular?

Where the canal that forms the western edge of Kenner and the lake meets is a great place to catch alligator gar if you're into that.
