Tom Benson -- A New Orleans Hero

Take a trip back in time with me, to the unfortunate circumstances in the moments, days, and weeks just after Hurricane Katrina slammed into the Gulf Coast. The city of New Orleans was beaten and broken, hundreds were left to die, and chaos reigned supreme. And while it can never compare to the human suffering that took place, arguably the biggest symbolic blow to the city may have been when the New Orleans Saints were forced to become vagabonds, skipping between road games across the country and home games split between two different states. The sum of all fears wasn't truly felt though until it appeared team owner Tom Benson was secretly negotiating a deal to permanently relocate the team to San Antonio.
More than half a decade later all of the above hasn't been forgotten, but much has been forgiven; and Benson for his part has reaffirmed his love for the "Big Easy." Maybe Benson had a change of heart, or perhaps he realized that saving the New Orleans Saints (again) and rebuilding the city could be part of a bigger legacy for himself. Whatever the reason, Benson has proven to be more loyal to the city of New Orleans than anyone could have ever imagined.
