2 years of being married and my wife never tells me this...
So I was spending some time in Arkansas with some of my wife's family this weekend, and through casual conversation, I found out that my wife has a cousin in the Rock 'N' Roll Hall of Fame. Her cousin is Levon Helm, drummer for "The Band." He's also known for a stint as Bob Dylan's drummer as well as for his solo work. I can't believe my wife didn't think that was important enough to mention to me...haha
Any of you guys have any famous relatives in the music biz?

My third cousin is Mickey Gilley, the country singer from Ferriday, La. who owned Gilley's in Pasadena, TX, and became famous during the Urban Cowboy era. His mother and my great-grandmother were sisters... Through him, I'm also related to Jerry Lee Lewis ("The Killer") who sang "Great Balls of Fire" etc.... and Jimmy Swaggart , disgraced 80s televangelist. The three of them are first cousins and grew up together in Ferriday.

No, but my neighbor Danny Johnson was rythm guitarist for Rick Derringer, Alice Cooper, Stevie Nicks, Steppenwolf, and more. He had a rarely played video on MTV that my brother appeared in.

My Cousin is John Plauche. He has a jazz band....I guess regionally big but not famous. He's the only one in the entire family other than me to have any musical ability.

That's pretty cool. Levon years back owned a live music club/restaurant on Decatur near the HoB. Shame it didn't last very long. I think it was called Levon Helm's All-American Cafe'.

There's no one in my lineage that would be instantly recognizable, but I do have a direct ancestor, Louis LaCaze, whose name is engraved on the front door at the Louvre in Paris. Interestingly, I was an art major at Tulane.
Louis La Caze, a French collector with a rare eye
By Souren Melikian

PARIS: There can be genius in art collecting, as in creating art. It is mostly found among those who cast aside the received ideas of their time and, one way or another, broke loose from the conventions of the society into which they were born.
Louis La Caze, whose paintings ranging from Rembrandt to Chardin are on view at the Louvre until July 9, was one of these rare men. He ended up bequeathing his 583 pictures to the museum in 1869. But unconventional people intimidate those who toe the official line, which may explain why it took the Louvre 138 years to stage a show reflecting the depth of La Caze's unique understanding of the art.

No one in my family has any musical talent. If you heard me try to play the guitar, you would agree.
