While mainstream is still watered down with garbage, I've noticed a lot of REAL, talented artists coming out in the past couple of years, and actually getting noticed. Hopefully, hip-hop continues down this path, and gets back to the years where it wasn't so hard to find good hip-hop music...
Thought it'd be a good idea to have a place to discuss this and share some recently released music... So, post some new(ish) videos, talk about emerging artists, etc.

This kid from New Orleans is ridiculously good. I had a hard time finding anymore songs from him, but with the talent he has, it won't be long until he blows up.. I wish he would change his name, though. Sharing a name with a major corporation makes googling his name a *****.
Unfortunately, I'm usually quite behind the times when it comes to hip hop. A recent group that I really enjoy is Jedi Mind Tricks. I hope I'm not using your word "newish" too liberally.
I'm kind of digging on Death Grips, too. But I'm learning they're not everybody's cup of tea.
Don't have time to follow much underground artists unfortunately but I do listen to a lot of mixtapes from mainstream artists---The Game's mixtapes are always classic.
There's a lot of good hip hop, you just have to search a little bit.
Kendrick Lamar, Schoolboy Q, Ab-Soul, Death Grips, NAS, Kanye West, Pusha T, actually the whole G.O.O.D music crew (or at least, the majority), El-P, Aesop Rock..
Cruel Summer will be good.
Control System is one of the best release of the year.
Life Is Good will be godly.
Cancer For Cure is dope.
Take Care is dope.
The Money Store is dope.
Habits & Contradictions is dope.
Good kid, m.A.A.d City will be the best album of the year.
new Aesop Rock album came out yesterday. that and Frank Ocean's new album are all i need for a few months.
edit: the EL-P album that dropped last month is also good, but i saw him live when he came to town and the show was a mess. its normally not like that, i wonder what was up.
You should check out Ab-Soul - Control System, you'll really like it. The whole TDE crew is incredible (except maybe Jay Rock, who I think is a little bit generic).
And with that NAS album that's coming out in a few days, this will be a great summer!

Dope album.. Peaked on the Billboard charts @ #1.. Real hip-hop making a slight comeback via public demand.. Hopefully others see his success and attempt to bring back the old school hip-hop flavor when producing new tracks.. Hip-hop lost it's soul when artists sold out and went the ringtone rap way just to make bank..
