I just got VIP tickets to KROQ's Epicenter show coming up in August. Tool is the headliner but one of the other "main" bands is the new Alice in Chains. Has anyone seen the new version perform live? If not, I'll let you all know how it is.
I'm going to rock my face off.
I hear this Duvall guy has it. If he can handle this song, I'm a believer:
I love AIC (probably my fav band) I just wished they would have changed their name after Layne's death. Just not the same, but the new guy has some talent and Jerry is an amazing guitarist and songwriter and an underrated singer in his own right. Even his Boggy Depot and other solo efforts were pretty good.
I never really considered them grunge, either. To me they were always way more metal but with really interesting harmonies. Nirvana always gets the credit for changing music but "Face Lift" dropped like a year before and that had a bigger impact on me than anything Nirvana ever released.
Nirvana was better. So was Pearl Jam, Sublime, Tool, Radiohead, Bush, Faith No More, Foo Fighters, Green Day, Incubus, NIN, Offspring, RATM, Korn, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Weezer.
Everyone is entitled to an opinion ........... but Offspring better than Chains???
I've seen them twice with the new guy and never with Layne. I got into them late and never saw Layne. My buddy who has always been a HUGE fan saw them with me when they opened for Velvet Revolver and was very, very happy. I think he does a great job as well, even though I don't have any personal live experience with seeing LAyne.
Bear in mind that one of these performances is on an actual stage with real recording equipment and one is a quick recording in some bar. Not bad if you ask me. I am now cautiously optimistic.
It's hard for me to describe how much "Nutshell" means to me. It will always be one of my favorites. I'll never forget hearing the news on 4/20/02.
That being said....This William DuVall guy is pretty damn good and I would love to see them in concert if they come anywhere close. But that song is way too Lane to even come close being the same.
