Bianca Halstead and Mia Zapatta of The Gits were two of my favorite female rockers.
They DVD Documentary about the band is excellent.

My best friend is married to Elizabeth (7 Year *itch/Clone/Von Iva).
She told me some really great stories about Mia. Sounded like a good person to have met. What an incredibly horrible way for her to go.
Modern day forensics and DNA evidence lead to the killer 10 years later.
From the Wiki:
Quote:
A jury convicted a Florida fisherman, Jesus Mezquia, of her murder on March 25, 2004, and he was sentenced to 36 years in prison. Her case was featured on Unsolved Mysteries, American Justice, and on 48 Hours.
Mezquia was linked to the crime in 2003 when a DNA profile was extracted from a saliva sample left on her body. It had been kept in cold storage until the STR technology was developed for full extraction. An original entry in 2001 failed to generate a positive result, also known as a "hit", but Mezquia's DNA entered the national databank after he was arrested in Florida for burglary in 2002.

Mia lived in Louisville for awhile. Her father still does I beleive. I had the opportunity to speak with him after her daughter's killer was arrested. The whole case was on 48 Hours Mystery. It's been on a couple of times. I wonder if I could find that episode on the net somewhere.
Mia sounded at times like Janis Joplin to me, at times like Chrissie Hyne, and at times like Stevie Nicks.
I loved her version of "Change Gonna Come"

My old unit. Grown men cried when they took our chest patches away. Yes we wore our unit patches on our left breast.
