QR had a couple of decent records (yes I'm that old) but I could never fully get into them, even in the heyday. They tried too hard to be some kind of poor man's Pink Floyd and just had average chops. Dream Theatre wiped the floor with them.

Have to agree with this assessment. DeGarmo was the main creative force behind Queensryche and after he left the group, their songwriting suffered as a result.
