I made my mind up, and I am not getting it. I called around, had no luck at all with Game Stop finding a Collectors Edition. On ebay, they are outrageously over priced.
The more research I do, I think I will buy Torch Light II and not even stick with Diablo. I do believe the things about the story being dumb downed, cause I know from experience they sure as hell dumbed down the Starcraft story, and created so many plot holes for the sequels. I'm also majorly turned off by the no skill points, and the auction house crap. I loved playing D1 cause I would find random stuff. I still remember finding a club called Gnarled Root or something like that, oh how I loved that item. It appears Blizzard went the money route thinking nothing but profits with that dumb auction house.
I do appreciate the replies guys, you guys are a blessing for the help.
So for my birthday this year, I'm taking 50 dollars on the Jimi Hendrix Winterland box, and going to buy Torch Light II. As much as I wanted that Collectors Edition of D3, it's not worth it if I'm not going to put massive hours into it. Unlike SCII, I've put hundreds of hours into that game, and have won over 1,000 games in multi player. I absolutely don't feel like I wasted a dime on that box set.

Yeah I forgot to mention that about the collectors edition. Once they are all bought up when the game comes out, people will try and sell them for double to triple the original price. Those who are selling D3 at those prices are the die hard fans who will support a crappy game no matter.
These are the people you will see in the D3 forums raging and foaming at the mouth defending this abomination of a game and Blizzard, no matter how much logic and facts are presented to them. They were so smart buy multiple copies of the collectors editions to keep one for themselves and sell the rest. In my opinion it's worth maybe $10-$20 more than the original at this point due to how fail the game is and also that people hardly play it anymore.
I laugh when I see those prices that you saw and like your birthday idea better!

D3 is one of the major reasons why I'm thinking about moving away from big gaming companies. Path of Exile, a company of 17 people based out of New Zealand has made a better game than Blizzard that has a ridiculous budget and man power to throw at any title.
The greed is just so outrageous, Blizzard hasn't been the same in years. I recently listened to the lead developer for Path of Exile, Chris Wilson do an interview, he really impressed me.
He said they've spent 6 years on development, many investors have come with offers to buy them out, he has refused, he says he doesn't want to be like Blizzard and EA where they're just pleasing investors/suits with sales and not the true gamers. You gotta respect that, his game is pretty good for the budget and manpower. I'm not saying Path of Exile is the greatest thing ever but it captures what an ARPG is supposed to be which is completely the opposite of what Diablo 3 tried to do.

I'm strictly not spending 150-200 dollars for that box set. I got lucky with the SCII box set, and got it for $120 at a Game stop where someone forgot about it for 3 months and they sold it to me. No luck this time, and probably a blessing that I didn't find it. I have to get it through my girl friend's thick skull, cause she is hard headed (like me), thinking I'm bummed cause we can't find it, and am trying to settle on a music box set.
One part of me is angry and upset cause I waited so long for this game, and the other part of me is telling me "why bother?" cause of the disappointment in Starcraft II's storyline, and some things in that game, I know I should not have had my hopes up on this 100%. But even though the crappy campaign and plot holes created by lack luster storyline in Starcraft II, it turned out to be an impressive stand off for Multiplayer. That's how Diablo should be too; even in Diablo II the storyline was all in the game but it wasn't shoved down your throat. You could go to the other Acts and just farm before even doing the final quests.
People are whining about Torchlight II in some places about it looking cartoony, but it looks better than D3. I love how those forums you mention is like 85% people who hate the game, and then 15% of people whining and defending it with the excuses "if you don't like it don't play it". I find 60 dollars to be a lot of money, and that's why I don't buy a lot of games anymore. I'm only going to buy something I'm going to get a lot of hours out of. So if I spent 60 dollars on a game that turned out to be crap as D3 is turning out to be, I know I would be angry too.
Well I seen the Hendrix Winterland box, and I know I'll get my money's worth out of that thing since those new Experience Hendrix live bootleg remasters have been out standing on quality, and I'm spending less than 50 dollars on it, so I can't wait for my next check so I can order that piece of gold for my collection.

That's awesome, i think I'll definitely check them out. I know EA is a sell out. Bought Madden 10 on my PSP for 50 bucks, and only played it about 3 weeks. Then Madden 11 on the PSP was basically the exact same game with different rosters. Then they wonder why the minority over here hates them and prefers 2K or Tecmo Super Bowl.

I love the people that cry about Torchlight and it's cartoony style, but honestly these are the people who rabidly defend Blizzard and anything they make. I think it's even more funny because it seems they catered this new Diablo 3 game to WoW players. When those players decide to make fun of Torchlights style it simply makes zero sense as WoWs style is about as cartoony as it gets.
Aside from the multiplayer aspect of SCII, they haven't put out a good product in years. I didn't even think WC3 and TFT was that great, but it was one of the only decent RTS games available at the time. WC 2 and SC were the companies high points for me. Even the original WoW was good and challenging and TBC was alright. Everything they made since then has just gone down hill.
It now becomes clear as to why Vivendi is trying to dump them off.

I also took the Path of Exile. They got it right. I donated to get in closed beta, not a bit of regret. Still playing 2 months later and I can say that I see long term play potential associated with this game. POE is what D3 should have been.
Anyone interested, 10 dollars gets you a beta key and you can play. Open beta will start in the next couple months for everyone else. This will be a free to play game with cosmetic micro transactions that will fund the game.

you can now log onto blizzard's website and look at your Diablo Profile. character stats, gear, and skills, and follower stats too. oh, and you can look at your friends profiles too. plus you can link the page to anyone so they can see it all too.
basically, its like how Funcom kept adding tons of useless social features to a game that crashed for the majority of its players.

i still played it for a little over 2 years before the new Game Director turned it into a PVE grindfest for tokens to buy gear, and then removed most of the complexity of combat in favor of one click abilities. such a shame for a game that had the combat and movement system to become an amazing PVP game.

This may sound stupid but I the imbalance of certain classes kept me away from that game.
I was coming from Warhammer though so that might explain a little bit
