So I got an email from them telling me that they were shipping Gran Turismo 5. I was going to do the "keep it" feature because I have two 5 dollar off coupons but it says that the game is "no longer available". Huh?

the game is fairly new....it's not likely that they will sell it to you yet.....
at least that's been my experience

I dunno, they might sell it. They have been mixing things up lately, not doing what they usually do.

It's the best service i've used, for whatever that's worth. If you want to game these days and not spend a fortune, Gamefly's the way to go. The price is right compared to buying. The only other option i'd consider is blockbuster (not far from my house) but there is not a matter of low availability, it's them not having the games at all. And then add in their rental prices and late fees and the price isn't right either.
I get what I want by
1. Staying on top of my queue
2. Not putting games in there I don't want to play.
3. Keeping a smaller amount of games in the queue, particularly if I REALLY want something that's in high demand.
4. Put future, hot releases into the queue as soon as they show up.
5. Order the queue so that high availability games aren't below low availability games.
It's common sense. And compared to dealing with blockbusters sad selection or dropping $60 for single title, I'm stoked. You spend like $200 for an entire year of Gamefly, which is dirt cheap for games all year and don't have to venture further than the mailbox.

Yeah, that part's cool, and that's why I signed up for it. I just haven't figured out how to game the system yet to get what I want.
They make it seem like you have less chance of getting the game you want if you don't keep ten in your queue. I have a lot of crap on there that I'm indifferent about, and that's pretty much what they sent me this time. I didn't even try GTA, thinking that I would never get it.
Anyway, thanks for the tips. I'll try them out.

np. It's a cheap solution and all the games you could ever want are just a click away. Just takes a little time to learn how to work the system to your advantage.
You should go for GTA4. It's been showing high availability amd the Keep It price is pretty sweet too.

I noticed a big difference in turn-around when they opened the Pittsburgh distro center a while back (I'm in Va). I have no complaints wrt Gamefly. IMO it keeps getting better.
I wish the QuckReturn or whatever it was called would have worked out. That was the feature where GF would be notified by the USPS that your return had been received and they would ship the next game on your list before they had it in-hand. With more distro centers that would have really decreased down time.

bump
I just signed up for Gamefly not too long ago and I agree with the very conservative approach. Every time I have had a new game(that hasn't come out yet) at the top of my queue, it will send it too me the day it comes out. And I get it in two days. Always. BUT.....and there is a big BUT..... if I can't get a new game the very first day it comes out, I usually have to wait between 4-7 days for it to come available. Some people might not like this but it's not a big deal to me. Just make sure you can be sent a new game the day it comes out and you should be fine.
NOTE: This time of year is kinda bad for services like these b/c it's the hottest time of the year for games. There will be new games every week/every other week.
