i thought the sega channel was pretty ******. nobody has done anything quite like it since. not that i know of anyway. full/instant access to hundreds of games for a good price = win in my book
I think you're wrong about the music thing too. That industry is in the process of getting Netflixed. They're just better at clinging on than blockbuster. More entrenched.
Regardless of if the dinosaurs die, I still don't see this flood of new an innovative music coming out as a result of the freedom of distribution that digital downloading allows. Bands are becoming more similar not less similar. It's as though the fact that bands are so easily and quickly exposed to each other that their music all ends up the same.
Sooner or later the big record companies will die and I never argued otherwise, but I'm not sure that will inevitably result in a golden age of new and innovative music.
What new innovative music has resulted from the digital download revolution?
But, I'm still waiting to hear about all this innovative music that has resulted from digital distribution of music?
Are you this pedantic about everything? Do you require proof that your blood requires oxygen before you will breathe?
If I were 22 and still into music as I was then, I'm sure I could give you some examples. But my consumption of music these days is extremely limited. If I'm lucky, I don't have to be on the phone all day at work and put Pandora on my station that plays artists based on Generation X, Social Distortion, and One Man Army. It makes for good mixes, but it's not in the same zip code or even the neighboring galaxy of cutting edge, freshly released "new media."
And I respectfully submit that your old *** doesn't know what's out there either.
So, I don't trust your expert witness, and cannot buy your counter-intuitive explanation that the modern process actually leads to less new artists getting their stuff out there, and less creativity and freshness occurring overall. I'll stick with the direction intuition is trying to point me towards. I'll go with popular thought, unless you come stronger than you have so far with this line of thought.
You think A&M records would have released that sweet autotune of Antwon Dodson?
Jesus I was dooped into buying playstation plus....what a load of crap. I was thinking free ps1 games thats awesome. Then I see that I can only get lilo and stitch.....SERIOUSLY.
blu-ray wasn't innovative to gaming at all. they built the blu-ray techology for movies, not gaming. its a better technology then HD-DVD. it holds like 4 times more space allowing better quality picture and sound for movies. honestly it does nothing for games. and they used it in their PS3 to push the technology and as an added incentive to buy one over a wii or 360. most likely if you have a PS3 you buy blu-ray movies over DVDs for the better quality of sound/picture. but its irrelevant to gaming. i never said sony doesn't do anything innovative period. i'm saying in their gaming section they really don't. They haven't done anything great in gaming since the PS2 came up. the PS2 was a minor graphics upgrade and thats about all. then after tha the xbox lanuched and the wii and they ried to play catch up (move coming out 4 years later to rival the wii controller? now there gonna try to match the kinect technolgy MS made? i think that the PS3 is better for a casual gamer who wants it to double as a blu-ray player, the Wii is for people with kids that don't play games much and want something for their kids and to stream netflix on, and xbox is for people who want the best machine for video games. I think sony makes great products personally, cameras, TVs, even the PS3 is a good machine, but their gaming dept is lacking. their online game svc is garbage compared to xbox live, they don't do much as far as securing hot titles for early or exclusive release. its like they don't really care about games cause they don't make much on it.
as somebody else commented they did it right and really paved the way to online gaming on consoles
ok..... You are talking about the online differences in the PS3 and Xbox..... I would not say it is garbage compared to Xbox.....but I do have one questions for ya..... How much have you paid to play XBox Live over the last 7 years?? I have payed $0 for the PS3 online game experience. I will take free online play over paying a tax to play a game online that I have already payed full price for any day.

Oh boy...
Look, the cost of Xbox Live is not prohibitive. $59.99 for 12-Months, $24.99 for 3-Months, and $9.99 for 1-Month. Are those still right? The page I hit first may have been outdated. Anyway...ten bucks a month? That is two visits to the local fast food joint for a combo meal. 25 bucks? That's a movie with small soda and nachos. Sixty bucks? That's a game. If you're like me, a game you buy and play for a grand total of twenty minutes.
Keep in mind, I'm a PSN guy. I just don't think that particular argument is a good one.
