U of Tennessee may look at Doug Marrone for Offensive Coordinator

Vols' Cutcliffe to be named Duke coach

KNOXVILLE — Tennessee offensive coordinator David Cutcliffe will be named the head coach at Duke Saturday at an afternoon press conference in Durham, N.C., a source familiar with the decision said Friday.
The announcement will be made at 4 p.m. CST.
...Outside candidates could include New Orleans Saints offensive coordinator Doug Marrone, who coached tight ends and tackles at UT in 2001.

If the Saints offense stays explosive and do well overall next year he could possibly find himself with a better chance for a HC job in the NFL or college. Unless UT gives him some kind of inclination that he'd have a good chance of taking over for Fulmer I wouldn't take it. I think Fulmer well be gone next year. Georgia will make sure Tenn. won't be in the SEC championship and the next coach would probably clean house. He'd have better job security here than there. Either way, it's Payton's offense so I wouldn't care much if he left or not. More power to him if that's what he wants to do though.
I don't know if his goal is to be an NFL head coach, but I'm sure the moves of Saban, Petrino, possibly Kiffin departing in Oakland, Chow to UCLA, is gonna make NFL owners very weary of dipping into the college ranks for coaches for awhile.

Besides being the Saints OC, Marrone also coaches the OL. He was credited for the success in 2006 with the OL play.

Everybody has different motivations, but an average offensive coordinator in the SEC makes about $250k and double that in the NFL. Money isn't everything, but all other things being equal.

Marrone's wife's family is in Tennessee - not sure if that would be a positive or negative factor in influencing him to go to UT.
Would be a great pickup for UT, but, considering the general success of our O-line under Marrone, I don't want to see him heading anywhere.
