Connecting the dots on defense

This week, I had a long discussion with a national college football writer about what makes the SEC the best conference in college football.
While the writer, who has longtime ties to the PAC-10 and covering college football in California, was quick to admit that the SEC is a cut above, he had strong feelings on why the SEC is better.
The writer believed that Steve Spurrier's influence of bringing a pro-style passing attack to the conference while at the University of Florida in the 1990s totally changed the league and helped it become the best in college football.
