Know Who to Pull For: Week Sixteen (Christmas Edition)
Full Story – Saints Report.Com
Know who to pull for is a weekly look at other games in the NFC not involving the Saints that might have an impact on the Saints playoff chances and then deciding the team to pull for in those games. One might say this week it as as simple as pulling for the Saints to beat the Falcons (which gives the Saints the NFC South) and for the 49ers to lose to the Seahawks (which would give the Saints a first round bye if they win out).
On a basic level it is that simple this week. If you want to play advanced kwtpf, however, then you have to start looking at who you want to play in the playoffs and pull for them to get in.
Here are two questions I would bet most fans get wrong. How many of the thirty two NFL teams still have mathematical chances to reach the playoffs this year? How many of the sixteen NFC teams still have mathematical chances? We will come back to that while you have a chance to ponder the question.
Take away the outliers (teams with very small wildcard chances) in the NFC and you basically have two teams competing for one spot. The Packers (13-1) and 49ers (11-3) are in as division champions. The Saints (11-3) are in but still need a win to clinch the South. Atlanta (9-5) and Detroit (9-5) are heavy favorites to win wildcard spots with the Falcons still having a chance at the South division title (which if they won would make the Saints a wildcard team). Most of the drama in the NFC will play out in the East where Dallas (8-6) and the Giants (7-7) compete for the East title (with the Eagles still having an out side shot ).
