By Brian Twining - Bleacher Report

The New Orleans Saints finished 2023 with a winning record but there was no partying in the French Quarter for them. At just 9-8, the Saints failed to make the playoffs for the second straight season under Dennis Allen making 2024 a possible make-or-break year for him. After a busy offseason, the New Orleans Saints still have a significant amount of holes to fill so let’s dive into their top 5 priorities during the 2024 NFL Draft.

New Orleans Saints Positions to Address in the NFL Draft ...

As mentioned, the Saints have struggled to breach the ceiling of mediocrity over the last few years. They have been one of the more talented teams in the league on paper but haven’t parlayed that into on-field performance. This offseason has seen a lot of roster turnover because of their salary cap situation which makes this NFL Draft as important as ever. Here are the positions they should address during it.

Offensive Line

The Saints had a mediocre, if not poor offensive line in 2023 where they ranked outside the top half of the NFL in overall grade. They’re returning four-fifths of their starting line from last season and signed Oli Udoh in free agency to fill the void left by the departure of Andrus Peat. Youth and potential are of the utmost importance on the offensive line for New Orleans. ...

ESPN suggests Saints package Trevor Penning in a trade for his replacement

There’s a real possibility the New Orleans Saints could call it quits on the Trevor Penning experiment. If they can find a better left tackle in the 2024 NFL draft, it’s worth moving him to guard or right tackle to play the better player — and it just might be worth moving him to a new team altogether if it means they can go get that better left tackle.

That’s the scenario offered by ESPN’s Bill Barnwell, who drew up trades for every team picking in the first round of this year’s draft. If there’s a possibility the Saints could package Penning in a deal to move up and get this year’s top...

B/R: Saints' inactivity hurts their offseason grade heading into the draft

Bleacher Report scouting department has graded the offseason for each NFL team. Kris Knox evaluated the NFC teams while his constituent Alex Ballentine evaluated the AFC. Free agency obviously plays a big part, but salary cap management, preparation for the 2024 draft and general team direction all play a part in forming the team’s grade.

The New Orleans Saints haven’t been overly active in free agency. The biggest move they made was bringing in Chase Young on a prove it contract. That likely brings down their grade, but they have managed the cap well this offseason. The rest of the...

LSU prospect Maason Smith met with Saints on pre-draft visit

Could this be the year the New Orleans Saints make LSU fans happy? The Saints have been linked to several prominent Tigers prospects in the 2024 NFL draft, having hosted wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr. at their local pro day while sending a huge contingent of coaches, scouts, and other team personnel to LSU’s pro day workouts.

And we can add LSU defensive tackle Maason Smith to the list of players they’ve met with before the 2024 draft. Smith told The Draft Network’s Justin Melo that the Saints were the first of many formal visits he’s made in recent weeks: “I started off in New Orleans...

Saints pick a couple of Washington Huskies in this 2024 mock draft

We’ll start with the bad news: it’s tough to glean much from a four-round mock draft when the New Orleans Saints only own two picks. Out of the first 135 selections in the 2024 draft, just two belong to the black and gold (at Nos. 14 and 45). A series of trades by general manager Mickey Loomis has cost the team a lot of draft capital, and they don’t have much to show for it.

Now let’s focus on the good news. The Saints can still come away with two impactful players with these two picks. That’s what happened in this four-round mock draft from Draft Wire’s Curt Popejoy. And each player...

Saints enter the NFL draft with questions along the offensive line

NEW ORLEANS — The New Orleans Saints could have a hard time passing up a promising prospect at offensive tackle should one be available to them in the 2024 NFL draft.

New Orleans' offensive line was among the club's strengths for much of the past decade and a half. More recently, however, the unit has struggled with both health and performance.

Right tackle Ryan Ramczyk, a 2019 All-Pro who missed last season's final four games with a nagging knee injury, has had surgery in an effort to prolong his NFL career. But his status for next season, which would be his eighth, remains unclear.

“I...

LSU DT Maason Smith visits with the Saints

Per Justin Melo of The Draft Network, former LSU defensive tackle Maason Smith has visited with over 12 teams and one of those teams is the New Orleans Saints.

Born in Houma, Louisiana, Maason Smith - called Tooka by his close friends and family - is an exciting defensive line prospect, and one that the Saints could select during the draft week.

Could he fit the system here in New Orleans? I say yes. He has an amount of explosiveness and athleticism that would benefit any defense. This past season would be his first full season of football in two years, after missing most of the 2022...

Making the case for the Saints to pick a right tackle at No. 14

This is a tough situation to be in, a week away from the 2024 NFL draft. The New Orleans Saints need help at both offensive tackle spots: Trevor Penning and Ryan Ramczyk each go into 2024 with their own set of questions, but the Saints only own a single first-round pick. So which side of hte offensive line should they address? We’ve already heard the argument for replacing Penning at left tackle, but here’s the case for targeting Ramczyk’s heir at right tackle.

You need a right tackle to replace Ramczyk, who may not play another snap of football after a degenerative knee condition didn’t...

Making the case for the Saints to draft a left tackle at No. 14

You never want to have much uncertainty about your left tackle spot, but that’s where the New Orleans Saints find themselves one week before the 2024 NFL draft. It’s a position that should be clearly in their crosshairs in the first round, where New Orleans is scheduled to pick at No. 14 overall.

The Saints drafted Trevor Penning as a developmental prospect in 2022, but gave him little time to develop after he essentially redshirted his rookie year with injuries. Penning was benched six games into his career in 2023. It’s been two years but six or seven real games’ worth of experience...

In this week's poll question we asked, other than the obvious answer of wide receiver Marques Colston, who is the greatest player the New Orleans Saints have drafted in the 5th round or later. Colston of course would be the runaway favorite, as the fourth-to-last pick in the 2006 draft would go on to become the greatest receiver in Saints history. So, to make things interesting we asked who else could be considered the greatest late round pick in team history.

After 155 votes, punter Thomas Morstead won with 49.7% of the vote. Morstead was a Saint for 12 years and was consistently one of...

NFL Draft Profile: Malachi Corley

Heading into the 2024 NFL Draft next week, the New Orleans Saints have a few needs. Obviously, the biggest need is offensive tackle, which the team will likely (hopefully) address in the first round.

Once they get to the second round, there are a few different routes they could go: defensive line or pass catcher. We’ve already highlighted some second-round receivers such as Keon Coleman, so I thought today we’d take a look at another receiver who’s gaining a lot of traction recently: Malachi Corley.

Malachi Corley is a 5-foot-11, 215-pound receiver from Western Kentucky who has really...

In the intricate chess game that is the NFL schedule, the New Orleans Saints have found themselves in a promising position for the 2024 season. Recent rankings reveal that the Saints are set to tackle the third easiest schedule among all NFL teams this year, offering them a potentially advantageous path to success.

According to the Pro Football Network rankings that came out earlier this week, the Saints have the 3rd easiest schedule behind only the Atlanta Falcons and the Los Angeles Chargers. The strength of schedule is a metric often scrutinized by analysts and fans, serving as a...
