“The Saints have been calling teams to try to trade up, and I assume they want one of the top offensive tackles,” Jeremiah wrote, predicting the Saints will ultimately stay put and select Washington Huskies left tackle Troy Fautanu. The 2024 NFL draft starts tomorrow and there feels like there is more up in the air than normal in this class. It’s not that no one knows mostly which players should go in the first round, but there a lot of ways the board can fall.

A lot of it is riding on how the quarterback dominoes and how the offensive tackle class end up falling. There are a lot of tackles and wide receivers, and people have them rated completely differently.

It’s tough to think of a setup worse than the New Orleans Saints’ offensive line right now. Of last year’s five starters, only two are locks to return in their spots for 2024: Pro Bowl center Erik McCoy and right guard Cesar Ruiz.

No matter how Mickey Loomis or anyone else tries to spin it, it’s very clear that the New Orleans Saints have one glaring need: Offensive tackle.

It’s such a glaring need that even Daniel Jeremiah, an NFL Network draft expert, said on X “find me a team that has a bigger need than the Saints at OT.”

Luckily for the Saints, this is a very offensive tackle heavy draft. You have Joe Alt who’s considered the best tackle in the draft, but after him, you have another 5+ guys who could, and probably will be first rounders in Olu Fashanu, Taliese Fuaga, Troy Fauntanu, Amarius Mims, JC Latham...

The New Orleans Saints will now be short another offensive lineman.

James Hurst, who has been in the Big Easy since 2020, announced his retirement on Wednesday in a rather surprising move. Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.Football was the first to report it.

Hurst was drafted by the Baltimore Ravens in 2014 and spend the first six seasons of his career with Baltimore, appearing in 90 games with 44 starts.
