The Saints turned in another disappointing result for the season, and they're down to six crucial games that might spell out their future.

Derek Carr was supposed to be better than this.

When the quarterback signed a $150 million deal with the New Orleans Saints, it was supposed to be an upgrade over what the team had with Andy Dalton last season. Even if we consider it an upgrade — it's debatable because Dalton was actually good last season — the return on investment is clearly not there.

The Saints had the chance to open up a nice lead in the NFC South with a victory at the Atlanta Falcons. But the biggest play of the game was Carr throwing an inexcusable pick 6, telegraphing a throw that Falcons safety Jessie Bates III broke on and returned 92 yards for a touchdown.

The Falcons were bad on offense with Desmond Ridder back in the lineup, but Carr's mistake was too much to overcome. He didn't make enough positive plays to make up for the bad pick 6. The Falcons won 24-15 and are back in a tie with the Saints for the NFC South lead at 5-6. ...

Are in for another Mickey Loomis special? NFL Media’s Daniel Jeremiah shared a big piece of information in his final 2024 mock draft, which he had previously only alluded to on social media.

“The Saints have been calling teams to try to trade up, and I assume they want one of the top offensive tackles,” Jeremiah wrote, predicting the Saints will ultimately stay put and select Washington Huskies left tackle Troy Fautanu. He continued, “I’m not sure how they have the OTs stacked on their board, but I do feel highly confident that New Orleans will be taking a bookend blocker in Round 1.”...

Saints Reacts Results: What do you think the Saints will do in the 1st round of the Draft?

Earlier this week, we asked our readers what they would like to see the New Orleans Saints do with their pick in the 1st round of the NFL Draft. 65% of voters said they would like them to stay and pick at 14. Only 20% said they would like them to trade down and just 15% said trade up.

The Saints have several needs on both offense and defense and while we don’t know what will happen, most mock drafts have the Saints taking an Offensive Tackle with the 14th pick.

With the NFL Draft just a little over 24 hours away, what I can tell you is that the excitement is building. In a night that is...

2024 NFL mock draft: Four QBs go at the top, OT run shakes up first round

The 2024 NFL draft starts tomorrow and there feels like there is more up in the air than normal in this class. It’s not that no one knows mostly which players should go in the first round, but there a lot of ways the board can fall.

A lot of it is riding on how the quarterback dominoes and how the offensive tackle class end up falling. There are a lot of tackles and wide receivers, and people have them rated completely differently.

Here is our final full first round mock draft, featuring some surprising trade action:

James Hurst retiring exacerbates Saints' woeful offensive line

It’s tough to think of a setup worse than the New Orleans Saints’ offensive line right now. Of last year’s five starters, only two are locks to return in their spots for 2024: Pro Bowl center Erik McCoy and right guard Cesar Ruiz.

Left tackle is undecided with the Saints expected to draft competition for Trevor Penning this weekend. Right tackle is an open wound with Ryan Ramczyk facing the very real possibility of a medical retirement. And left guard is now looking worse with James Hurst retiring from pro football.

The Saints need more reinforcements than they can afford with their...

Are the Saints going to trade up in round one?

No matter how Mickey Loomis or anyone else tries to spin it, it’s very clear that the New Orleans Saints have one glaring need: Offensive tackle.

It’s such a glaring need that even Daniel Jeremiah, an NFL Network draft expert, said on X “find me a team that has a bigger need than the Saints at OT.”

Luckily for the Saints, this is a very offensive tackle heavy draft. You have Joe Alt who’s considered the best tackle in the draft, but after him, you have another 5+ guys who could, and probably will be first rounders in Olu Fashanu, Taliese Fuaga, Troy Fauntanu, Amarius Mims, JC Latham...

Salary cap impact of James Hurst retiring with the Saints

An already-difficult New Orleans Saints offensive line outlook got a little more complicated on Wednesday. Veteran left guard James Hurst announced his retirement after a decade in the NFL, opening a void next to an already-open spot at left tackle. But the Saints weren’t exactly caught by surprise, and the salary cap impact will be minimal.

This may have been broadcast earlier this offseason. Hurst agreed to a pay cut in March that lowered his cap hit from $6.5 million to just $2.97 million, giving up most of his base salary as well as some bonuses. Hurst told NewOrleans.Football’s Mike...

The New Orleans Saints will now be short another offensive lineman.

James Hurst, who has been in the Big Easy since 2020, announced his retirement on Wednesday in a rather surprising move. Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.Football was the first to report it.

Hurst was drafted by the Baltimore Ravens in 2014 and spend the first six seasons of his career with Baltimore, appearing in 90 games with 44 starts.

Before the 2020 season, he came to New Orleans and appeared in 60 games with 51 starts, mostly the last two seasons where he started 31 games for the Black and Gold.

He ended the thread with a thank-you to the sport itself, saying that it gave him the opportunity to compete with and against some of the best athletes on the planet, and allowed him to accomplish a childhood dream.

Hurst spent 10 seasons in the NFL, six of which were spent with the Baltimore Ravens (who...
