New Orleans has drafted an SEC wide receiver in the 1st round just four times in franchise history. Will they bypass defensive needs to add this explosive offensive threat with an early-round choice this year?

By Bob Rose | SI

Since being selected in the 2nd round of the 2016 draft out of Ohio State, New Orleans Saints wideout Michael Thomas has established himself as the NFL's best receiver. Thomas set league records for his productivity over his first four seasons with at least 92 receptions and 1,100 receiving yards each year. His 149 receptions in 2019 were an NFL record, and he led the league in both catches and receiving yards in 2018 and 2019.

Thomas sustained a severe ankle injury during the 2020 season opener against Tampa Bay. The injury caused him to miss nine games, and he was limited during the games he did play. Without their star receiver, an offensive deficiency that the Saints had over the previous few seasons was further exposed: the lack of wideout depth to complement Thomas.

Veteran Pro Bowler Emmanuel Sanders took over as the top receiver in Thomas' absence, but has always been more effective as a number 2 receiver. Sanders was released this offseason. The Saints expect big steps up from young wideouts Deonte Harris and Marquez Callaway, who have each shown great promise. They also hope to get some production from disappointing 2018 draft choice Tre'Quan Smith or former UDFAs Lil'Jordan Humphrey or Juwan Johnson.

Former New Orleans Saints running back Reggie Bush is set to reunite with his Heisman Trophy after 14 years.

Bush forfeited his Heisman in 2010 after an investigation was launched by the NCAA into USC and concluded that the former Trojans running back received improper benefits during his time with USC.

In a new world of college football that now includes NIL deals for student-athletes that pay players for their image and likeliness, many fans have demanded the NCAA return the Heisman Trophy to Bush for his legendary season where he rushed for 1,740 yards and 16 touchdowns on 200...

With the official start of the 2024 NFL Draft just a day away, rumors and smokescreens are starting to surround the lands. Some of them, not so good for the New Orleans Saints if true.

Teams potentially moving up for OT

Just recently today, NFL Network’s Daniel Jeremiah tweeted out that many of his phone calls involved teams potentially moving up for an offensive tackle in round one.

If this in fact were to be true, it begs the question of what does a team like the Saints do in this scenario?

The Saints are the most tackle-needy team in the entire league at the moment meaning that...

Vontae Mack, no matter what.

Those were the words that officially got me hooked on the NFL Draft, even if it was from a movie. The 2014 movie Draft Day starring Kevin Costner was the biggest reason I see the draft the way I do now: as a national holiday. Immediately after seeing the movie, I began formulating my first ever mock draft. This year, I am as excited as ever for one of my favorite days of the year.

Reasons just like mine are why the NFL drafts is as big as it is. It’s managed to strike a personal connection with fans across the country and hold a sentimental value to many. All...

It’s about time: ESPN’s Pete Thamel reports that the Heisman Trust will return Reggie Bush’s Heisman Trophy. The former New Orleans Saints running back won that trophy in 2005 after an outstanding three-year run with the USC Trojans, but was forced to forfeit it in 2010 after an NCAA investigation slammed the school for improper recruiting violations.

Thamel adds that an announcement from the Heisman Trust is coming on Wednesday, in which this unprecedented “reinstatement” of Bush’s trophy will be chalked up to “enormous changes in the college football landscape.” Name, image, and...

Good for Reggie Bush. The former New Orleans Saints running back and USC Trojans star will have the Heisman Trophy he won in 2005 returned to him, per ESPN’s Pete Thamel, following a yearslong process of “deliberation” at the Heisman Trust. Bush forfeited the Heisman Trophy in 2010 following an investigation into improper recruiting benefits he received during his career at USC from 2003 to 2005.

Bush probably has a lot to say now that he’s won this unprecedented victory. For now, though, all we have is a brief and carefully-worded statement shared with ESPN.

“Personally, I’m thrilled to...

Florida State defensive tackle Braden Fiske met with the New Orleans Saints' defensive line coaches this week. He also met with coaches from the Bills and Cardinals and visited the Raiders, Steelers, and Chargers, per Aaron Wilson.

Braden Fiske is one of the biggest risers in the 2024 NFL Draft. Amazing performances in the Senior Bowl and the NFL Combine allowed this to happen, but that was not the only reason. Fiske showed great performances on game tapes and high character in meetings. He is big, fast, and dominant at defensive tackle, which was shown in his combined measurements. If...
