What's a realistic sack projection for Marcus Davenport's rookie season?

After the New Orleans Saints gave up their 2019 first-round pick to move up to pick Marcus Davenport in the 2018 NFL Draft, expectations for the defensive end will be sky high this season.

Fans seem to be expecting 10 sacks right out of the gate for the Texas-San Antonio product, but is that realistic for a rookie that went 14th overall?

Based on an analysis of the pass rushers selected in the past seven drafts, it would seem double-digit sacks is an unrealistic -- but not impossible -- goal for his rookie season.

New Orleans Saints general manager Mickey Loomis stated during his annual pre-draft press conference with the local media that the team would pick up wide receiver Chris Olave's fifth-year option but not right tackle Trevor Penning's.

Olave’s option being picked up is expected. Despite facing some injuries in his young career, he has 191 receptions for 2,565 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns through three seasons. He’s also been the de facto WR#1 ever since Michael Thomas left the team in 2023.

GREEN BAY, Wis. — New Orleans Saints General Manager Mickey Loomis confirmed Wednesday that quarterback Derek Carr is dealing with a "shoulder issue," but said the team currently has “no clarity” on the extent of the injury.

Loomis made the remarks during his annual pre-draft press conference — an event mandated by the NFL ahead of the draft, which begins Thursday.
