Correct?
No. When the very first kneeling gestures got going last pre-season, he made comments that he disagreed. And based on his comments over the weekend, I think it's clear that he still disagrees that kneeling during the anthem is an appropriate gesture . . . but he also wanted to lead the Cowboys in expressing a message of unity. I think the only context with these "unity" expressions are to tell the president that he cannot divide them.

But apparently the story about his no-stand/no-play "policy" was completely fabricated.

I have seen no such NFL player being disrespectful during the anthem, unless you're one of those snowflake triggered republicans who thinks people should be forced to stand for a song.

And this is coming from a 13 year Marine Corps combat veteran.
First off, thank you for your service!

Now explain how the national anthem is anything other then how our forefathers defended our nation from outside forces. Laid down their lives in the process. Sing the song and let it sink in. It's all about the war they fought! It's not about ideas! It's about lives lost and the respect they deserve!

The whole purpose of this country is ideas. In particularly to be free from the injustices visited upon the colonies by the British. That freedom is encapsulated and guaranteed not by the flag, but the Constitution. You know the very document that government officials and our military members swear to support and defend.

Want to disrespect what the military fights for, disrespect the First Amendment.

Then we need a new national anthem. We need one that represents what this country stands for.

The national anthem is a song that has been conflated with saluting the military. While I am 100% behind our veterans and those serving, it is not right that we have made this song ONLY about the military..essentially making it some sort of weird litmus test to see if someone is a "real patriot" or not. And that's what it has become as evidenced by all of these angry fans. They don't understand that the players aren't dissing the military. Period. End of story.

Sing the song and let it sink in.
What if I decide to kneel with a picture of my grandfather who fought in WWII? What if I cross my arms? Who the hell cares what I do during a SONG. It matters most what we think and do outside of a ritualistic event created to bring American pride to sports games.

I wish I could use this quote as the embodiment of every bit of what misinformed anger is being spread like wildfire today. It (your quote) is a culmination of misunderstanding, in my humble opinion. To YOU the national anthem may only be about military, but to others it is that AND much more. I respect your view, but please don't go around thinking that everyone else shares it, because that is just not reality.

It includes everything. From the struggle in the early days of our nation, including militarily to the poor person in the inner city struggling to make it through life.

I have no issues with someone sitting or kneeling during the national anthem it's there choice, just as a choose to remove my hat and face the flag. I don't think it has any negativity torwards veterans. I believe it has gotten seriously overdrawn and Trump's comment hurt the issue more than help. I for one will not stop watching the Saints because some of the players kneeled or locked arms. I have some friends that talking with them, you swear Treason has been committed. They vow to watch college football only-see ya!!

I agree. They digested the situation over the course of time and devised a way to make the point and to stick it in the eye of the POTUS.

For about 5 minutes I had a positive view of Jerry Jones and the Cowboys and then I realized they're really a bunch of marketing prostitutes trying to find the most PC way of getting around a tough issue without slowing the sale of beer and soap.

By chance did you know it has more than one verse?

Quote:
And where is that band who so vauntingly swore, That the havoc of war and the battle's confusion A home and a Country should leave us no more? Their blood has wash'd out their foul footstep's pollution. No refuge could save the hireling and slave From the terror of flight or the gloom of the grave, And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.
