These things are growing all over the place. They look similar to strawberries. I'm thinking about eating one, but I figure it would be best to find out what they are before sticking it in my mouth. What is it???

I always heard them being called wild strawberries and being poisonous. Maybe my Mom just told me that when I was a kid so I wouldn't go around eating them.

Its poppies you can use that thing in Jaydens thread to harvest them. Opium is fun!

That's a thimbleberry. Rubus parviflorus. You can eat it.

Well i mean i guess you could have eaten it no matter what it was, because it's not like it was going to eat you first. But you can eat it and it's not likely to poison you.

I just googled thimbleberry. I don't think that's it. These things look different and they don't grow on a bush. I think you're trying to kill me.

because nobody ever mislabels pictures on the interwebs!

i guess the important thing here is, is it a big leaf? Big enough to wipe yourself with? Because, no joke, thimbleberry is known for being a t-p substitute when you get Caught Out There.

and what does the flower look like, before you see a berry. Is it white or purple?

i didn't do anything, you're the one who can't resist picking up something and ingesting it. If i was trying to kill you, it looks like all i'd have to do is pour some antifreeze into a bowl on the garage floor and just wait a while.

:hihi:

I don't think these have leaves. They're are tiny little things you'd find in your lawn, if I'm IDing the thing correctly. In the picture he has, the little berry looking this is surrounded by blades of grass.

i can envision what he's talking about, i grew up with them all over the place. They are an almost obscene shade of red, and they have almost a velvety surface. Yet somehow i never, ever was tempted to pick one up and eat one. Imagine. :)

What i saw in the pictures, comparing with this thing i remember seeing growing wild on the ground all over in Slidell, i think it's a thimbleberry. Whatever it is, it's very likely some variety of Rubus.

Possibly not as big as the type people in Minnesota are bored enough to go about photographing and cataloging :) i guess if i didn't have festivals or crawfish season, i'd walk around taking pictures of plants too.

It's too red to be a salmonberry, and not bumpy or seedy enough to be any of the other berries. It's possible it's some type of strawberry, but i think it would still be a Rubus.

These things just grow out of the ground. They don't really have leaves.

My mom already tried that and it didn't work. Ha!

Poison parmiginia plant.....no I dont know what it is but before you eat it take it to a local nursery, or if you cant resist at least eat it on a bench outside of a hospital with the picture of the plant tied to your neck

Hey, if I see something growing out of the ground that looks like Cap'n Crunch Crunch Berries, I'm gonna want to eat it.
