Saints OL Matt Lehr and an undisclosed Falcon have been subpoened to testify at a Texas grand jury investigating an alleged steroid distribution ring, however according Lehr's attorney any charges will probably be dropped. I guess it was inevitable for the steroids issue to hit the NFL. Just hope it doesn't impact the Saints to negatively. GEAUX SAINTS!! Through Thick and Thin

It won't. This has nothing to do with the Saints. If by any means Lehr is unable to play this year for any reason, we invested nothing in him. Not to mention, this is only very very cursory action. If anything substantial is to come, it won't be for a while.

"I guess it was inevitable for the steroids issue to hit the NFL."

We don't need this crap. Inevitable? Not new.

Go back 20 or so years to Lyle Alzado, Raiders.

Quote here:

Alzado is probably most remembered today for being one of the first major U.S. sports figures to admit using steroids. In the last years of his life, as he battled against the brain tumor that eventually caused his death at the age of 43, Alzado asserted that his steroid abuse directly led to his fatal illness, but his physician stated it could not possibly be true. According to some reports, Alzado was using natural growth hormone, harvested from human corpses, as opposed to synthetic growth hormones. However, shortly before his death, Alzado recounted his steroid abuse in an article in Sports Illustrated. He said:

“ I started taking anabolic steroids in 1969 and never stopped. It was addicting, mentally addicting. Now I'm sick, and I'm scared. 90% of the athletes I know are on the stuff. We're not born to be 300 lbs or jump 30ft. But all the time I was taking steroids, I knew they were making me play better. I became very violent on the field and off it. I did things only crazy people do. Once a guy sideswiped my car and I beat the hell out of him. Now look at me. My hair's gone, I wobble when I walk and have to hold on to someone for support, and I have trouble remembering things. My last wish? That no one else ever dies this way.”

Alzado is buried at River View Cemetery in Portland."

Yeah, I remember the tragic incident with Alzado, I was inferring about the issue since it hit MLB in the last few years and hasn't dramatically affected the NFL to date. As far as affecting the Saints, who knows who Lehr may have been supplying if indeed he was a supplier. Hopefully it will not be a big deal. GEAUX SAINTS!! Through Thick and Thin

According to the homepage of Saints Report.com, this story was posted this morning

http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/dn/latestnews/stories/040808dnmetsteroid.3cd6499.html

Pardon me for not checking the home-page before posting, regardless I thought this would be a reasonable topic for discussion during this very slow "news" period of the year. I realize that steroids have been a factor in the NFL during the past couple of decades, however they have not been "1st page" material as they have in MLB. Who knows where these allegations may lead, but I would like to stay on-top of these investigations as much as possible. Where there is smoke there is fire! Flame away! GEAUX SAI
