In an article on the Bears website, they claim that there are five players whose stocks are rising. All but one of them are not who we want, which means it's good for us. All the rest of the players would then fall lower and more likely be available at 40.

Movin' on up: Five prospects whose stock is rising - Chicago Bears

Devin Thomas, WR, Michigan State
Brian Brohm, QB, Louisville
Branden Albert, OL, Virginia
Dustin Keller, TE, Purdue
Duane Brown, OT, Virginia Tech

Only Dustin Keller in that group matter to us at 40 and Branden Albert could possibly rise high enough to send a better defensive player to us at 10. So 4 of 5 of these "risers" would be good for us. :)

And even Dustin Keller won't matter to us since we'll have Shockey by then.

I personally think Brohm is going to be better than Ryan.

Brohm rising is good for us... This will force the falcons to take ryan instead of waiting for brohm in round two....

I definitely think that is a possibility. He would have been a 1st rounder if he had come out last year. He had another good year in 2007, but being on a loosing team seems to have hurt him.

Only 4 real good QBs this year (1st & 2nd round picks). And all we need is the Fclowns to realize Ryan goes in the top 10, Brohm could go to the Bears, Henne to Carolina, and Miami gets Flacco--and the Fclowns have squandered another chance at a decent starting QB.

Fclowns then see they have to take Ryan @3.

I kinda think our 2nd round pick is Shockey, but who knows, we might get him for cheaper...

Reggie Smith, Antoine Cason, and Brandon Flowers are slightly possible at #40.

Why is everyone so high on Shockey his attitude stinks , hope we pass on him. The NYG are willing to deal him because they played better without him and his cancerous high jenks.

Of course I get a huge kick out of the meltdown that has become the Falcons' organization of late, but I was miffed about Petrino leaving, since I was 100% sure he'd have taken Brohm with their first pick. Now they may well get a player on the D side that we want....

I would be very wary about believing this. Just because Boss played decently in a couple of games does not make him starting caliber. The History of the NFL is littered with players who played at HOF levels for 1-2 games, and then fell faster than a skydiver with no parachute the rest of their careers.

Randy Moss had a horrible attitude in Oakland, to the point where he really didn't even try in games. At all. Yet he came to a winning organization with a strong coach and a strong qb with leadership qualities and we saw no problems with Moss at all.

Shockey coming here would be the same thing.

I hope you're right...

I think there are 3 reasons why everyone is so high on this trade, including me.

1) Because Shockey's best season IMHO was his rookie season, when SP was his OC.

2) If you watch Brees with the Chargers, you know what he can do with a talented tight end.

3) Shockey is a proven NFL vet. that fills a hole immediately.
