NFL Draft Countdown (New 2 Round Mock) (1 Viewer)

I'd prefer Trevor Laws in the second given that scenario, but I could live...

Terrible mock.

No way we'd pass on Dan Connor if he were there at 40 (unlikely) and Mayo and Lofton were both off the board (also unlikely).

Mayo MAY not be there at 40 (if we don't pick Rivers at 10), but if he is.........

Rivers and Laws/Sims would make me happy.

I'm not sure it's that far fetched. I dont think Connor is any better of a prospect than Poz was and he also dropped into round 2.

Assuming we take Rivers at 10, I cant see why they would take another LB at 40. I think DT or CB is more likely though assuming we pick Rivers in the 1st.

worst mock ever--Devin Thomas at 11 AND 20--Derrick Harvey at 7 and 18

Huh???:idunno:

What makes you so sure about that? You think we would go Rivers in the first, then Connor in the second...I don't think so.:idunno:

I don't like the Rivers pick at 10. Never have been a fan. If they're saying Connor is a mid-2nd pick, I'd much rather see us use 10 on DRC (or McKelvin if he's there) and Connor at 40.

First of all, Poz was an absolute steal for the Bills in the 2nd. Prior to his arm getting broken, he was a tackling machine for them. Connor, by all rights, is better than Poz. Broke his records at Penn State....

For you Mayo fans who want us to get him if he's in the 2nd or trade down in the first for him, read what this very draft board said about him:
However, Rod Marinelli's doing things his way these days and what he wants more than anything is a middle linebacker for his Tampa 2 defense. The speedy, athletic Jerod Mayo would be a perfect fit for Detroit's scheme which

None of the LB's that show in the 1st round have either the stats or the award hardware to merit their being placed ahead of him. Much like Poz, we're getting caught in the annual "flavor of the month" with picks. During the college football season, when people were actually watching him play, most had Connor as either the top LB in the draft, or at least a top 15 pick.

ETA: What's really hysterical is if you actually read the scouting reports on the players they're showing in their mocks. Read the scouting reports on Connor, Lofton, and Mayo, and tell me why Connor is the last of the three being taken?

Dan Connor Scouting Report - 2008 NFL Draft Prospect
Curtis Lofton Scouting Report - 2008 NFL Draft Prospect
Jerod Mayo Scouting Report - 2008 NFL Draft Prospect

For that matter, read the Rivers bio and it looks strikingly similar to Connor's, without the production in college Connor had.

Keith Rivers Scouting Report - 2008 NFL Draft Prospect

Again, I'm just saying that's why this mock is so poor.

Well, the names floating out there are par for the course: Rivers, DRC or trade up for Ellis. Fine by me.

I would prefer Trevor Laws (selected two picks later), but I wouldn't complain about those picks. I would hope that we pick up a DT somewhere in this draft though...

Not necessarily in direct response to your post, but Rivers was the top-rated linebacker in this draft class before this past season and he's the top-rated linebacker after it. He didn't shoot up the boards because of workouts. People act like he's some workout warrior who's benefitting from there being no other linebackers, that he'd be lucky to go on the first day because he didn't have a 150 tackle season in college. I'm sure he is benefitting to some degree, but he'd still be a first-round pick if you put him in a class with Laurinitis, Derrick Johnson, and Patrick Willis. A first round pick-caliber player is still a first round pick player regardless of the class. He may not be top 10 if those other guys were on the board, but he'd still go in the first round. The same can't necessarily be said of other guys like Mayo and Connor who have worked their way into possibly being first rounders this offseason.

Rivers goes to USC. That's his selling point. End of story. If he went to East Bumbletree University, he'd be a 4th round pick.
Connor didn't work his way up to possibly being a first rounder this offseason, he was projected a top 15 at the end of the past college season. The workout warriors have knocked him down the board despite Connor putting up very respectable workout numbers (faster 3 cone time than McFadden???)
I get tired of the "flavor of the month" draft picks. A month ago DRC was the second coming of Deion Sanders. Now they show him as barely a top 20 pick. Heck, Kenny Phillips was a guaranteed first rounder 2 months ago and now he'll be lucky to crack the top 31.
I'm not playing the Rivers vs. Connor in this thread - merely posting my disgust at how these draft "experts" move players around left and right when there has been no football, no combine, and no pro days during the interim to justify this position jockey-ing. For a prime example, look at the player profile threads I posted of Mayo and Lofton and then look where they place them in the mock.
I hope this draft day gets here REALLY soon cuz I'm running out of gas following all this talking head crap.

In reality, most of the draft "experts" you are referring to are fans like you and I who make websites and guess at the picks. As far as those who do it for a living, the changes a lot of times are based on what they hear from GMs of the teams. So, it is not necessarily that a play is all of a sudden better or worse, but the opinion of that player in front offices may either have changed or become more clear as the draft approaches.
