Verizon has a pretty compelling TV package that includes all the channels our family watches including HD channels for only $47! Only problem is, I am a victim of DirecTV's monopoly, I mean, exclusivity on Sunday Ticket. Has anyone tried getting the Ticket standalone without any other DirecTV programming? Do they allow that?

Thought I'd ask here first because I'm sure DTV will give me the run around and would like to go in armed with information (companies hate that!). Thx in adv.

I've had NFL ticket since it's inception. When we switched from DirectTv to cable 8 years ago I was able to keep a connection for about $5 or $10/month. It steadily increased. After time they didn't even offer the package to new subscribers. When talking to DirectTv once they didn't even have a name for that package. I was grandfathered in and they wouldn't take it away but they raised the "connection" fee yearly to around $25/month which only got me the pay movie channels and the NFL channel. I finally just got rid of Charter and now only have Direct Tv.

On the bright side I have less disruption of service with DirectTv.

Good luck with them.

If DirecTV can't make you happy, you can't be made happy.

I'd have had directTV years ago if Comcast didn't have me by the short & curlies on their monopoly cable internet service.

The minute FIOS from Verizon gets out here, I'm jumping ship.

Just hold out until they lose their exclusive deal. No way the NFL lets them keep it. Congress has already put the ki-bosh on DirecTV trying to do the same thing with MLB.

I like DirectTV, but their HD upgrades are starting to require a full Southern exposure without trees. I know it's how the tech works, but it's going to get harder and harder to get full access to the service.

I had sunday ticket after the hurricane.... :eek:mg: nothing better than that, 4 recievers in the same room with 4 TV's.... Saints on the biggest of course..... 4 games at once, nothing better than that...but i don't think you can get just the ticket package, you have to at least have the basic program....

I believe on Sirius they said DTV has the contract until 2011. Long time to hold out.

Just to confirm what you've heard, I have personal experience with this.

Originally you could buy ST without any other DirecTV (D*) programming package. During that time, I had D* with programming. I canceled the programming package but kept ST.

About 3-4 years ago, D* changed the policy. Now you have to subscribe to a standard programming package to be able to buy ST. People like me who had only ST were grandfathered and were allowed to keep that arrangement. But I was unable to make any changes to my account (buy new receivers, upgrade to HD) without adding a basic package.

Only a few days ago, I bit the bullet and upgraded my entire setup to HD and dumped cable. The main driver was wanting to get a lot more HD channels and the ability to see my Saints in HD every week :ezbill:

So the bottom line is that you have to have a programming package with D* to get ST.

We get DTv just for football season and then just have it turned off for the rest of the year. Every september, we reconnect. I don't think you are supposed to, but we do.

A few years back when I lived in an apartment that faced the wrong way I kept my satellite receiver at my parent's house, and only paid for Sunday Ticket. I never had any issues.

Granted, that was 5 years ago.

I don't have a problem with DTV's service except that I can't get HD from them because of a neighbor's tree. Even if it were my tree I still wouldn't cut it down or decapitate it. With all this technology, why can't we get a satellite signal to shoot through tree branches?! Anyway, with money getting tight, the Verizon package is WAY cheaper in a bundle and we already have FiOS internet and phone service through them, you don't pay extra for HD (although you don't get as many HD channels but I get NONE now so...) and they carry NFL Network. 2011 can't get here soon enough, what a racket. I may look into initializing their cheapest service package + Sunday Ticket during the season thanks again for the feedback.
