Just some idiot writer who happened to add our name into a sentence he was writing.

Plus it's on Fox Sports which is a horrible site.
 
Imagine that... the Saints in another relocation article. :rolleyes:

I wish they'd just leave it alone... but I guess they get paid to churn out articles.. so churn away...

Yea... but the difference here is that this guy is actually building a stadium...... so it comes down to WHO is going to move there and we are always mentioned in these articles which bothers me....
 
Let's face it guys, until a deal between the State and the Saints happens, then we're always going to be added into those articles. It makes perfect since. Our deal is up at the end of the 2010 season and the stadium is ready that next year.
The state is already having a hard time paying the team. Money Bags Benson, isn't happy and even though we the fans are supporting the team more than ever, nothing else really is. State is trying, but they're falling short! No sponsorship or naming rights to the dome. If Benson is all about money, which he is, then he'll probably look hard at this.
The state needs to do whatever it needs to do NOW! This does not need to carry over much longer. The good news, San Deigo is a much better choice for LA and could wind up being the team that goes there. It certainly makes more sense.

Not strictly. I wouldn't rule expansion out just yet. The NFL, fundamentally, is based on an expanding business model. As soon as it stops expanding, they're going to get in real financial trouble (which is part of what all this "international" business is all about). A nice fat franchise fee has some allure.


Until Benson gets his new deal he's going to let our name be dropped for this sort of mess (I don't know that that's what he specifically did here, but I wouldn't be suprised if he put our name out there). But I seriously doubt we're moving to LA.

Benson's real love and flirtation was with San Antonio, and that's out. He has no attachment to LA (other then maybe money) and other franchises are in worse situations then we are (namely San Diego, Jacksonville, Minnesota, and arguably Buffalo). He's not going to push real hard to get to LA when New Orleans is still a viable market for him (unless things just go epically sour in the up-coming negotiations) and the NFL certainly isn't going to be keen on him trying to jack that market when it can be used to bail out a franchise in real trouble (if they don't choose to expand).

I think it's important we not freak out over some entirely expected negotiating tactics. Benson has already demonstrated he's quite willing to spend the teams goodwill freely in order to get a good deal from the state. This time isn't going to be any different (though it should)
 
Why wouldn't we be mentioned in any relocation talks -- we do not have a long term arrangement with the Saints -- we will never be in the same financial league as LA -- Benson has threatened to move in the past -- But so what -- doesn't mean its any closer to happening now then it was before
 
Being in the Air Force allows me to work with people who are from all over the US. I actually work with 3 guys from L.A. and they all said the same thing: "Nobody in L.A. wants a relocated team. It would have to be a new franchise for people to support it completely and if they brought in an existing franchise, it would turn out just like the Raiders, who we all know moved back to Oakland.

I think we are safe in regards to moving to L.A. and I think Buffalo is staying put. That leaves Jacksonville and Minnesota as the likely candidates, and if I had to put money on one of them relocating, it would be the Vikings.

I love the Superdome. I have seen many games there and enjoyed them all (even the losses) because of the atmosphere. It really was an architectural marvel when it was built but I think it is time to seriously consider building a new stadium. One reason is Super Bowls. Lately the NFL has granted Super Bowls to cities with new stadiums and I'm not sure New Orleans will host another without one. The NFL likes to hold the game in N.O., but they can really show off in the newer places.

That being said, I don't live in N.O. so I can't speak to the social climate down there right now. I don't know how funding for a new place would be gotten or if there is even money to be had. What I do know is that if, and that's a big if, the Saints leave then you can kiss professional football goodbye in the State of Louisiana. Meaning the NFL would never lobby for a team to move to N.O. like it has for L.A. The Saints are our one and only shot.

If Benson was all about money, the team would have been sold several years ago. Benson is a successsful businessman because he works at it. Fans should be thankful, 1st that he bought the team when Mecom was selling. It could have easily been moved out of town, but thanks to Mr. Benson they are still here.

Yes he made some mistakes, especially right after Katrina. But show me one NFL owner that is right ALL THE TIME.

The NFL is big business- and state of the art stadiums are the thing of the present and future. No matter how much we like the Superdome, even with the renovations, it is second class in comparison to other stadiums recently built or being built. Sooner or later, the city , the State and local business leaders, , have to face reality and step up to the plate and join in a joint venture with Benson to build a new facility, with areas for tailgating, etc. Either the Riverfront or where the Iberville Project is are both ideal.

I think with Bobby Jindal being Govennor, we stand a better chance of getting something done than at any time in the last 12 years. Foster was not a big Saints fan and only did what he absolutely had to, in order to avoid N.O. metro voters from turning against him, and Blanco didn't have a clue.

Actually, this guy is not quite building a stadium.. not yet anyway. Look at the timeline of the plans. This project started as an ambitious commercial development in City of Industry, CA. This dude decided that it would be great to add a stadium to the plans to lure an NFL team to L.A. The stadium part has not even been approved yet.. it is scheduled to be voted on september. Wait till they find out how hard it's gonna be to find the money for it. The NFL is pretty much out of the stadium lending business due to the new Dallas and Giants stadia. And if CA is not going to back a new stadium in San Diego, where there is a team, it doesn't look like they're gonna jump to build one in L.A. Let me know when the first pile is driven.. until then it's just a pipe dream.

If the NFL wants LA to have a team, why don't they create one instead of acting like grave robbers. I'm really sick of all the attention LA is getting. Why did they lose the team they had, anybody know?

The better question is why have they lost the teams they have had?
