Hey everyone I thought that now would be a good time to see who has something from one of the Saints first seasons. Attached is a photo a poster that featured the famous John Gilliam TD, I hope to get it framed soon and it will hang on the wall in my new home. I thought it might be call to see some other mementos fans have of the early years of the Saints.

An antique shop in Ponchatoula had a Ash Tray that had the schedule from the first season printed on it. I don't smoke but I wish I'd bought the ash tray, I saw similar ones on ebay for the 1970's. Anyone have something from the first few years of the team they want to share?

These are a few 1967 items from my collection (sorry for the bad photos):

The helmet is not technically from 1967, but it is signed by most of the 1967 team members. Between 1985 and 1995 I tracked down and visited most of the living team members and had them sign this helmet and a media guide. Except for the first few I met, I have photos of me with each player and the helmet. I'm still missing a few signatures, but I don't get to travelas much now as I did then and I'mnot actively trying find those last few players.

The schedule poster and pennant are both from 1967.

The "Honorary Saint" certificate was presented to Gordon F. Wilson in 1967. It is signed by John Mecom and dated August 8, 1967. If anyone knows, I would love to find out who Gordon Wilson is, and why he was an honorary Saint.

WOW, thanks for sharing!!! The scheudle poster is awesome it looks brand new...I saw a 1967 media guide o ebay, but it was posted here and the bidding went crazy, I think it would have been bought for a bargin had it not been posted. The guide sold for over $250. As for your helmet who are you missing that is still living?

I had to go back and check my notes - it's been a while since I tried to contact these guys. I actually made contact with several but haven't been able to follow up and meet them.

Contacted but not met: Ben Hart, Vern Burke, Bo Burris and Ted Davis.

No contact and no clue where they might be: John Douglas, Don McCall, Jerry Jones, Jimmy Jordan and George Younblood.

Contacted, but they refused to sign (both are long stories) George Harvey and Elijah Nevett.

The signatures on the helmet are:
Tom Hall, Phil Vandersea, Eli Strand, Ray Ogden, Ray Rissmiller, Jake Kupp, Joe Wendryhoski, Bill Sandeman, Kent Kramer, Billy Kilmer, Walt Roberts, Jim Taylor, Jim Garcia, Earl Leggett, Doug Atkins, Fred Whittingham, George Rose, Dave Whitsell, Jimmy Heidel, Tom McNill, Charlie Durkee, Roy Schmidt, Jerry Sturm, Gary Cuozzo, Les Kelley, John Gilliam, Danny Abramowicz, Dave Rowe, Bill Cody, Jackie Burkett, Mike Tilleman, Ernie Wheelwright, Dick Anderson, Lou Cordelione, Jim Hester, Bruce Cortez, Charlie Brown, Jerry Simmons, Brian Schweda and Tom Barrington.

These players died before I was able to meet with them: Ray Poage, Steve Stonebreaker, Dave Simmons, Del Williams, Randy Schultz and Gary Wood.

I know how you feel man, I lost just about all my stuff, I bought the poster off ebay, there are very few items I still have from before the storm. I'm sorry for your losses.

Interesting Re: Schedule

If you notice, we play the SAME teams this year as in our inaugural year?

Coincidence?

Have you ever contacted Ken Trahan at the Saints Hall of Fame, I'm sure he would be helpful in trying to find some of those guys. He's very friendly and can be contacted at the Hall of Fame in Kenner. I think it would be clear to him that you aren't looking to make a profit but just create one of the most original pieces of Saints history ever. Heck I might even ask if he could display it for a short time with it being the Saints 40th year.

I have the poster that is my avatar. was for sale on ebay around christmas a few years ago doesn't have a copyright but the seller was claiming it was from the inauguaral year. looks to be from late sixties

Back when I was actively pursuing the autographs I spoke to Ken quite a bit and he was very helpful. Joe Wendryhoski and Roy Schmidt were also very helpful, as were many of the players, and put me in touch with several players. Many of them asked me for contact info for their old teammates so they could get in touch. Two of the players actually hired me for legal work over the years. It was a fun project, and this post got me to start looking again. I may have found a new address for George Youngblood last night - and he's in Southern California, so I may add his signature soon.
