"Mike Jones told 9 Wants to Know Investigative Reporter Paula Woodward he has had a "sexual business" relationship with Pastor Ted Haggard for the past three years.

Haggard is the founder and senior leader of the New Life Church in Colorado Springs. The church has 14,000 members.

He is also president of the National Association of Evangelicals, an organization that represents millions of people."

Softly caressing a football with your hands gay or Richard Simmons gay?

I am convinced that Fred Phelps is 3x as gay as Liberace ever dreamed of being.

And he resigns, no more weekly calls to President Bush now I guess.

Now if only Robertson's and Dobson's gay prostitutes/drug dealers will come forward. Some background on Haggard.

Hey guys...let's not drag the guy's name through the mud until it's been proven.
For the record, Haggard's resignation is standard church policy under any such allegations.

A) Who dragged his name through the mud?
B) Why not? What is his history?
C) Why should I care about the national assn. of Evangelicals?

Actually, Haggard used to be an assistant pastor at my parents' church in Baton Rouge before leaving to start his church in Colorado Springs. He went to college at Oral Roberts, where I did my undergrad, and I have heard him speak on several occasions. He does really kind of give off the soft-spoken, effeminate thing a little bit, I suppose, but this does really surprise me. He has always seemed very, very honest and sincere, and if it's true, I honestly think it's really sad. Yet considering his support for the Colorado anti-gay marriage amendment, I would also find it, if true, to be deliciously ironic.

Here's my perspective (you're unlikely to see this perspective anywhere else):

These allegations have nothing to do with gay marriage. Haggard is married and has 5 children. He should be faithful to his marriage. If he had sexual relations with a man or woman; in both instances these activites are wrong and a sin.

Because the male escort has come out saying he wanted to make a statement regarding gay marriage, the mindless media is now focusing on that issue. However, more fundamental is the question of fidelity in marrriage. We are all sinners. If Haggard is found guilty of having relations outside of marriage, he should apologize, beg forgiveness and accept the consequences.

And now the Denver Post:

"Ted Haggard, one of the most prominent evangelical pastors in the nation, resigned today as president of the National Association of Evangelicals amid allegations that he carried on a three-year sexual relationship with a male prostitute.

Haggard, founder of the 14,000-member New Life Church, has denied the accusations but said in a statement released by the church today that he could "not continue to minister under the cloud created by accusations made on Denver talk radio this morning."

I would give you a response, but I don't think it will change your mind. You must be incapable of putting yourself in the man's shoes. I'm not saying he's innocent. I'm saying let's wait until it's proven before you guys salivate. Sad.

This story could be true, but, it also could be a complete lie. We'll see. I'm not going to condemn this man, either way.
