The Saints are -4 in the turnover department. They only have 4 INTs (tied for 26th in the league) this season and 2 of them are from a linebacker. Our corners need to step up!!!

Especially, Mr "Treinta y Cuatro"!!! Mike McKenzie needs to think about getting those dreads cut off, so he can turn his head to see the ball coming his way. Has anyone ever notice that he plays the WR way too much? Is he that afraid of getting schooled by a WR, that he can't turn his head for a second and read the QB.

Man, I wish we had a shut down corner! Yeah, and 31 other teams are wishing the same thing. I guess Champs don't grow on trees.

Our corners haven't gotten any interceptions this season. Like you said two of the four were from a linebacker and the other two came from our safeties.

ive said that all year, while we are winnin and im happy for that not one of our picks come from our corners.to be honest i dont think there very good, and our best one is freddie.but thats just me

i guess we'll be addressing that in the first, second, or third round next year.

The -4 stat is probably the single most important stat of all when it comes to whether the Saints will be successfull or not. It really dosen't matter where the turnovers come from, although I would like to see more from the cornerbacks, as long as we get on the positive side. I would go as far to say that if the Saints are not + in this catagory, they will not make the post season. We have got to get on the + side of this stat and if the corner's can do it then great, if not some other area of defense has to pick it up.

I tend to agree with your assessment. I also would love to see them start hawking the ball. It would help a lot in our cause to get to the play-offs and beyond. I am gald that we are -4 in the takeaway dept, but we could be much better. I think that CB will be our top priority in the draft. We should look to the SEC for that help. Just go to Baton Rouge baby!

Hopefully Freddy Thomas doesn't have another 10 tackles this game like hes been doing. Tired of hearing about how great a tackler he is when he wouldn't even have to make those tackles if he could stop anyone from catching the ball.

Our CB's have hands of stone. Every time they've gotten their hands on the ball they drop it or block it away from someone ready to make the pick. Fred needs to tighten up on the WR's and we need to give him help. We will lose Sunday if he doesn't play better against Galloway.

Well, sometimes you can only polish a turd so much... and it still looks like dudu. Mike McKenzie was overrated. He had ONE good year with Green Bay then demanded more money. When a struggling Green Bay lets go of a cornerback, you have to figure the guy has issues. Cancer problem in the locker room or not, he is just too inconsistant. Sadly, he is our best option at CB, which isn't saying very much. I always liked Fred Thomas, but he lacks size and hands. He makes up for it in effort and savvy, but as long as we have problems with the #1 corner, Thomas will continue to be overwhelmed. Jason Craft has no business playing in the NFL. He is a liability even at Nickle.

Most people point to the linebacking corp over the past 5 years as our area of most need and worst play. I have to say Cornerbacks in that timespan rank right up there with them as God-awful. Why we haven't pursued a high caliber corner in free agency is beyond me. Lord knows there have been plenty of good corners switching teams the last few years. Hopefully now that the culture of the team is changing, it will be easier to attract better free agents in the offseason.

I don't get the pass for Fred Thomas. How does Mckenzie shutting down his side of the field "overwhelm" Fred? Teams pick on Thomas all game every game.

He needs to go right after Craft. Then we need to sign Clement. Fred Thomas had 10 passes completed on him last week....guess how much he gets paid? 5 million a year....Mckenzie had 2 passes completed on him....guess how much he gets paid? 5.6 million a year.

Whos really overpaid and overrated?

Posted elsewhere but relevant:

Our front 4 have to do more. We need the rush off the edge to get to the QB for more sacks instead of hurries and we need the 2 in the middle to collapse the pocket, keep the linemen from getting to the second level on run blocks and tackle whoever is running between the tackles... especially when the QB runs up the middle- broken play or QB draw. This should get us the sacks we need and force the QB to make throws that get us some pics.
Standing back and watching the guy catch it front of you is what safeties do. Eventually our CBs are going to have to jump a route and get the ball.
It really DOES all start up front.

McKenzie needs a hair cut. I ask you Mike: Do you wanna be pretty or do you wanna be a play maker?

I agree that he loses the ball when turning. Especially on fades and deep ball thrown over the shoulder.

Our defense's inability to create turnovers is the reason we can't put teams away. I'd bet if you look at the games this year that have been decided by a 13+ point margin, the winning team had a +2 turnover ratio the VAST majority of the time. One notable exception being the week 3 Atlanta/Saints, though we had a special teams TD and a blocked field goal in the game.

Our front 4 doesn't create consistent pressure, and I've noticed quite a few of our sacks have been coverage sacks. Probably half of interceptions are created by pressure up front and/or tipped balls. We get very few of either. Our starting defensive ends have 6.5 sacks between them. There are 9 players in the NFL that have that amount or more.

I realize our secondary isn't GREAT, and probably isn't in the top 3rd of the league, but they haven't been given many opportunities to 'pin their ears back' and go for the ball. They're out there in coverage for 3 or 4 seconds trying not to give up a big play.

My sentiments exactly.

It would be nice if our CBs could get an INT before the season ends.

- BTW, we need FA Nate Clements and another CB on the first day of next year's draft.
