If we want to win then we have to get better at these so that we don't sit back and withstand the attack the offense wants to dictate.

1st... and definitely foremost. Our front 4 have to do more. We need the rush off the edge to get to the QB for more sacks instead of hurries and we need the 2 in the middle to collapse the pocket, keep the linemen from getting to the second level on run blocks and tackle whoever is running between the tackles... especially when the QB runs up the middle- broken play or QB draw. This should get us the sacks we need and force the QB to make throws that get us to the number 2 on my list which is:

2nd... Standing back and watching the guy catch it front of you is what safeties do. Eventually our CBs are going to have to jump a route and get the ball.

3rd... the linebackers have got to be the true since of the word. You have to back the front 4. Be in the hole with the RB and put all 3 hats on the ball. 1st man there wrap up everyone after that punch the ball out. we must create turnovers.

I agree, i think we need to get better on D. We could be blowing some of these teams away if our D played a little better. (say like they did against the falcons)

I think a large part of the defense is a lack of talent. Payton and Gibbs are trying to paper over cracks. Simoneau, Stoutmire and Fred Thomas should not be playing on a playoff calibre defense

couple all pro DE's, a couple of line backers playing their hearts out (Thank you Fujita!) and a nose tackle - the rest are backups

The fact that we went this far is a credit to the coaches;
whatever the D does for the rest of the year will come from heart.

All pro DE's?! Neither have been to a pro bowl. They are both above average at their position but have not played close to all-pro this season or any. A MLB and CB are badly needed to upgrade this defense. Donnie Edwards should be priority #1 in the off-season

I'd like to take this time to pull up a post from last week and thank the front 4 for their work. I couldn't have expected more. Way to go!!

D-line was awesome last week. We finally got to Gradkowski a little bit. I thought that with our talent we should have gotten to him in the first game, but Tampa's patchwork O-line did a pretty good job that week. We obviously made the adjustments for last Sunday and rattled him in the first quarter and in the second half.

Great job.

There will be other LB's besides Donnie Edwards. I was all for it at the beginning of the season, but come on he is going to want to come in and want a three year contract ( maybe more).We can look elsewhere besides Donnie Edwards (younger) I mean if we get him that's fine... but #1 priority?
