Was wondering

Some of you know stats more then I do.

Has this OL so far given up the least amount of sacks by a Saint's OL

I know this has to be like the 3rd or 4th game with out giving up sacks.

Our offensive line is not why we haven't given up many sacks. That is almost all Drew Brees. He has the best pocket awareness of any QB I have ever seen and the 2nd best is not even close.

If you tivo'ed the game go back and look at random Saints offensive possessions. Drew Brees bailed out the line sooo many times just by being shifty in the pocket.

That's not to say though that the line isn't playing great. The LT was playing in his first game ever against one of the best pass rushers in the NFL, the RT is in his first season as a starter, rookie RG and it's the C's first year. It really is amazing how well they've played.

that and by having bush and deuce out there so often splits the defenses up so they cant afford to blitz as they will get burned, so really its all thanks to payton's schemes but, for an O-line that was supposed to be horrible they are going their job and not many penalties today, that has been there only problem...

Drew Brees and Marques Colston are the primary reasons that this offense is effective.

If we ever get a consistant running game... no one could keep up with us!

Oh....

I like Coach Payton too! ;)

i love my boy but brady moves very well too... people underestimate brees' ability to move in the pocket and he is great with working with the o-line knowing their assignments etc.

Brady is damn good. He is a lot better than everyone in the league except Brees. Brees is two levels above the next guy as far as feeling the pressure, making one step to completely avoid it and not taking his eyes off the WR's and finding the open man.

I'd have to go with Brady, then Brees...but it is close.

Like Darrel Johnston said today, you don't have to be able to run like Mike Vick to be effective in the NFL. You just have to have awareness and enough mobility to get outside the pocket to make throws. Brees is a really smart QB. He senses pressure, and he knows how to read defenses and find the open man. It's great to see a QB who knows when to look off his first receiver and throw it to a secondary receiver or back. Not only does he prevent sacks (along with the quick drop scheme Payton uses), but he also knows where to go with the ball.

Well Brees has been sacked 2 times less than Brady and he has dropped back to pass 20 less times. We have also played teams that have been much better at sacking the QB than the Patriots have and our offensive line is not even close to the Pats.

I'm not saying Brees is a better overall QB and I don't know if Brees could be considered a better QB than Brady regardless of what he does this year but right now Brees is playing with better pocket awareness than ANY Qb I have ever seen. BTW, Marino had a great pocket awareness.

Until Brees wins a Superbowl, no one except for maybe Saints fans will say he's better than Brady at pocket awareness (or at any aspect of the game). Obviously, Brady has had a great team around him, but he has played clutch in big games. The Saints don't have the D the Patriots have had in their SB runs nor do they have the consistent running game, but in another year or two they well could. Brees is playing as well as any QB in the league right now, but until he puts that SB skin on the wall, it'll be a little tough to make the claim that he's better than Brady at pocket awareness or at any aspect of the game. That's just the way it goes.

I think the line has played really well. at the same time brees has been pressured a little bit but he does what is necessary to avoid it, like a really good qb should.

Fifteen in 1992. We have given up eight in eight games. So we are on a pace to just miss the record.

don't get too caught up with this line, brees and payton make the line look good
