Looks like the inevitable has happened in Jacksonville.

Lions, Chargers get extensions, but the Jags don't bother to ask for one
Posted by Mike Florio on September 17, 2009 1:58 PM ET

The Detroit Lions and the San Diego Chargers have each received 24-hour extensions of the 72-hour deadline for selling out all non-premium seats to their respective home openers.

In Detroit, 1,700 tickets need to be sold, down from 4,000 on Wednesday.

In a release, the Chargers attribute their extension to the fact that they played at Oakland on Monday night. The two concepts, of course, have no logical connection, especially for the first home game of the regular season.

Meanwhile, the Jaguars did not request more time to sell 17,000 unsold non-premium tickets to the home opener against the Cardinals. As a result, the game will not be televised locally.

The Jags should consider drafting Tim Tebow. We all know he's King of Northern Florida. That's the only thing I can think of that will fill that stadium........and that may not even work!

But then again, that would only work for 1 season because I don't see Tebow panning out in the NFL. I'm not even sure what position he'd play.

this is such crap. You people can't afford to or won't pay to see a bad product, then we'll punish you by limiting your ability to see this team at ALL!! Seems to me like they'll lose fans this way. Maybe it's Kraft, Jones, and Goodells way of only having Pats and Cowpies fans in the league.

not to mention with the economy the way it is a lot of people cant afford the cash layout.

hmmm....i might try to score some jags tickets for our bye week if they are playing at home.

Did the Cowboys sell out today?

Apparently they had been sold out for some time. The extra tickets were reserved for fans of the visiting team. When the opposing team's fans didn't buy them, they then became available to Cowboys fans. Those tickets, whether purchased or not, are not counted against a possible black out. I live in Dallas and I can tell you now that no matter how much those tickets are for Cowboys games, there will never be a black out here. There's simply too much money here and too large of a fan base. Not to mention that Jerry Jones would NEVER let that happen.

Also, given how many times local companies in New Orleans have bought up tickets to lift blackouts, I'm sure there would be a line of companies in Dallas willing to do that.

The owner there has already brought this up.

The blackout policy dates well before Kraft and Jones became owner's and LONG before Goodell's time as the NFL commissioner.

SD desperately needs a new stadium. The seats that are unsold are always the same nosebleed seats that nobody wants.

Ok. But I don't ever remember it happening or being a big deal. Seems like now more than ever people need to be able to see the teams the root for.

This is all good..

I want as many people as possible to see the Cowboys lose their home opener. If this team wasn't in Dallas they would not be hyped at all..heck, they are going to finish 3rd in their division..more embarrasment for Jones is on the way..a losing season in your new palace Jerry: priceless.
