I think with Drew Brees' sack (or lack thereof) totals, we could easilly trade an OL at the end of the season for a 3rd or better draft pick... Ala Patriots. Bushrod seems to be a prime candidate. I still like Brown, but he's also replaceable and could even be upgraded through the draft. Though I think the Saints could probably get a 1st and 3rd from the Raiders for Jammal...

kinda one of thoses scenario's were its about money and Bushrod could get the knod if he gains the trust of the coaches...but thats yet to be determined...but he could be the guy who leaves..though I still kinda think it might be Grant...but one of our "good" players wont be kept.

Lemme see if I can get through week two of the season and I'll get back to you on this one.

Bushrod is extremely cheap right now, no way we trade him. If Bushrod proves the be the player everyone is convinced he is, then I see us shopping Brown.

Yarr, the season has just begun, mateys.

brown may be upgradeable......but so is ladanian tomlinson or terrelle owens or patrick willis

bushrod seems to get a lot of respect after his game against the lions, but i feel that is completely unwarranted...IMHO he played terribly

trading away linemen or failing to sign them in free agency is one of the worst mistakes a team could make. you dont see many offensive linemen getting traded and thats because good ones are hard to come by....we have put together one of the best lines in the league and trading away a single piece of it would by stupid.......especially for unproven commodities like draft picks

we trade brown and get a 1st rounder? then we draft a lineman to replace him? then that lineman makes the pro bowl every other year.....why didnt we just keep brown instead of taking the gamble....know when to hold them and know when to fold them

Are you really comparing Brown to LT, TO and PW? He was never THAT good, but let's go with that thought. If San Diego were to trade LT for high draft picks right now it would be a brilliant move by AJ. LT is on the decline. And I feel the same way about Brown, IF Bushrod turns out to be the stud that many hope he will be.

That hasn't been proven one way or another yet.

I'm not so sure that the Saints' o-line is that highly regarded by other front offices throughout the league. Their success is primarily due to Brees' pocket awareness and quick release. Bushrod was beaten several times in the Detroit game but it didn't matter because Brees eluded the rush every time.

WOOOOOOOW easy everyone!! Week two is not even here yet and already we want to talk about trading away our Oline depth that many were questioning before Bushrod even started his first game. I love having a short memory sometimes too, but GEEEEEEESH already..
As for Brown being on the decline, I call BS on that. While he has not been the stud WE all want him to be, he has been more than good and will continue to get better. Bushrod is more than a serviceable backup and how long has it been since our team has been able to say they had that on the Oline???
Ponder this for a second....one of the greratest Offensive Lines in history was a Broncos line that was undersized, but they were great due to playing together for YEARS!!!!! Can we be patient enough as fans and an organization to let our Oline, who is now finally playing very well, to gel and become an elite force to be reckoned with on a weekly basis?? Or are we going to call for our FO to trade away anyone that has promise because we feel that there are more pressing areas to address and think we can go without the depth that we have been complaining about not having for years???
Yes, Brees makes everyone around him look good, but this is a team sport and everyone works together, LET'S NOT FORGET THAT PLEASE!!!!!!!!

Think Glover for a minute before wanting to trade away people...How long did it take to recover from the loss of that DT?? Anyone, anyone??

I don't think he is comparing them, just making a point that all of those players are upgradeable.. Of course upgrading is also a good word for gambeling, because you never truely know what you may be getting in the "upgrade"

thats i pretty much exactly what i was going for.....thanks for the clarification

1. The praise of Bushrod after 1 game is excessive and premature...I agree on that. He played terribly? That's ******** too. Fans obsess too much on seeing a defensive end get to the edge on an OT, but as long as he can slide and keep him behind the QB, he's done his job. Bushrod has quick feet, and recovers well. He did in the Lions game.

2. Totally agree with your take on keeping linemen rather than trading them away. I don't understand why anyone would think you should mess with a line like we have, that is good and has continuity. When your team is built around Drew Brees, the last thing you want to do is break up the crew of guys protecting him.

And indeed, it's just as likely that you could trade away Brown, and then be unable to replace him, even with a high 1st round draft pick. Why take that chance?

I think a lot of fans are getting spoiled by our team, and have unrealistic expectations..

Pass protection is not just about mauling defenders, but also about chemistry and communication between the QB and the offensive line.

I'm certain that the Saints offensive line is highly regarded...you can't ignore the numbers. Jahri Evans has been mentioned this offseason as perhaps the best guard in the NFL. Carl Nicks is already highly regarded, and I've read multiple stories that mention them as perhaps the best young guard tandem in the NFL. That's a lot of talent.

I mentioned it in the post above in regards to Bushrod, but I think the polarization on his performance is silly. He blew some plays last weekend, just like other guys on the offense did. He wasn't beaten regularly though, as some suggest. Having your QB step up in the pocket does not mean the OT has been beat. The Saints linemen are excellent at staying with their blocks, and redirecting the defenders so that they are carried out of the play. Granted, if Aaron Brooks was playing with this offensive line, he'd be sacked about 7 times per game...but then again, he's not in the NFL any more.

These linemen stay with their blocks, and that's not as common in the NFL as it should be. It's a good bunch.

While I agree that the trade brown talk is kind of crazy right now, if bushrod looks like an all pro and we can get enough compensation for brown, then you do it. Now thats a lot of ifs, but hey anything can happen. what if we were able to trade brown straight up for lance briggs. again, VERY premature, but I'm at least open to the possibility based on how bushrod plays in the next few weeks.
