The falcons wore their retro uniforms yesterday. Other teams have done it this season. Wish the saints would do it. I love those old uniforms!

You're going to see alot of it in the AFC as it's the 50th anniversiary of the AFL, but I'm not sure why ATL wore theirs......were they originally an AFL team? Or did they wear them just because? I can't believe I actually care about what the Falcons are doing.....but I wouldnt mind seeing the Saints striped sleeves home or away jerseys but, let's get all of the golds right this time? The pants gold and jersey/helmet gold were different and it looked like dung.

The Falcons came into the NFL 2 years before the Saints did as far as I know. So they came in the year 1965.

Atlanta wore the black jerseys and red helmets (circa 1969-70), and they were not an AFL team at any time. I like most of the retros, too. I'm not crazy about the old Pats logo.

It's weird how in that one season (2002) the Saints went crazy with retros, alternates, all blacks (before any other team did it), gold jerseys, etc.

Then after that - nothing. No alternates, no retros, nada.

I don't understand why an NFL team would hesitate to come out with different looks - it creates a whole new merchandising opportunity. There were Eagles fans at the game yesterday wearing those horrible light blue and gold throwback unis that Philly wore last year.

The only thing the Saints do to mix it up is gold pants v's black pants - but that's not even a big deal because fans don't buy pants.

May have something to do with superstition. The old saying, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. I could see them changing things up if they get a bad roll, but I don't see them changing anything anytime soon.

Some of it probably has to do with the fact that Brees has said he sees the receivers better in white jerseys and part of it is that our retro uniforms aren't really all that different than our current uniforms options. Other than a stripe here or there and a slightly different fleur-de-lis here or there, they all look pretty close to the same. It's not like the Pats, Broncos, Falcons or Bengals who totally changed their unifroms.

It's a shame that black helmet was never allowed to take flight after the 1969 pre-season because it was a very liberal shift in a late 60's context of a more grittier, slicker type uniform. The black helmet was still the centerpiece of it all. The history behind the experiment was that John Mecom wanted a new look for his team going into his third season as Saints owner. If you remembered the early Saints uniforms from the late 60's up until Hank Shramm's arrival, they had a lot of potential but it always seemed to come up short. Mecom's brief experiment in 1969 failed because he neglected to notify the league office of the upcoming change and because of this, NFL higher ups refused to license the new unis and recognize the proposed black helmet. Plus the changes didn't wear off on many Saints fans very well. It didn't have a lot of support and so Mecom just dumped it. Ironically enough, our farm team, the Richmond Roadrunners, under future Saints HC JD Roberts, got the ditched black helmets sent to there team presumably to use it in reserve, which IIRC, they never ended up doing.

IMO, that idea was seen as too radical of shift from a still very conservative NFL, and one tat was also far ahead of it's time to be truly appreciated. Amazingly some Saints fans are still very curious about it 40 years later, that should tell you something of the idea and how advanced it seemed to come into conflict with the late 60's status quo NFL guidelines.

The Winking Buccaneer should be an embarrassment to long time Tampa fans. WTH came up with that God awful idea to placard that hideous Good Humor-like logo on an NFL team.

This is the NFL, not the minor league drivel we expect from some AFL2 team based out of Little Rock, Arkansas. My God even the CFL teams have better uniforms then the Buccaneer that looked like a casting reject from the Pirates of the Caribbean movies.

Well, I just hope to see lots of the combo we wore Sunday. Love the black jersey and gold pants.

Even college football squads are wearing the retro uniforms. Some are better than others.

Can you imagine in about 30 or 40 years, the University of Oregon pulls out the retros from this decade? What were they on? Acid, LSD? Crack? I know they have those jerseys just to be different, but they're actually getting worse every year. Did anyone see those against Utah on Saturday? No wonder Joey Harrington and Jason Fife were terrible quarterbacks in the pros. They must be suffering flashbacks. How can a football player be proud to don that jersey?

Anyway, back to the Saints.
