He just seems to have stepped right in and done his job well. It is a little bit surprising just because it seems like the Saints playbook would be pretty tough to learn.

Keep it it up David!

He's a small piece of a large puzzle. He's part of a system that is successful and that allows him to be successful. Hopefully the more reps he get, the better him and Brees will be together.

I wonder how it will be when Dinkins gets back. I think we may see less of Strief at TE possibly. Maybe, maybe not.

I really like what i've seen out of him in that role. I just hope that we don't have to be without shockey in big games.

Shockey is a catch and run tight end, Thomas is a blocking tight end, with catching abilities. Shockey will have 1,000 yards this year, mark my words. He needs to start being more of a real tight end, sometimes he runs more WR routes than TE routes.

Anyhow, for the poster...YES looks like a 7th round pick was a very very very good trade :plus-un2:

That's the beauty of having him, thomas, shockey, evans, bush, colston, meachem, moore, and henderson, every single one of them is a capable receiver who can make plays and beat you down the field. One is going to be open, its just a fact, and we have the most accurate passer in the NFL.

IMO this is further evidence of Brees' greatness as a leader. Thomas is brought in extremely late in the offseason and has very little time to establish a relationship/rapport with Drew. Despite this, Drew clearly trusts Thomas already and has targetted him in several key situations. As a life long Saints fan, I thank my lucky stars everyday that Drew is our QB.

Agreed.

I also don't think Sean Payton gets enough credit. He is the other constant in this system that keeps yielding results.

I remember watching Thomas in the Texas/USC national championship game. The guy had great hands and caught like ten passes from Vince Young, which given Young's accuracy is no small feat. I think he went in the third round to the Pats. Thank you Patriots for having a back log at Tight end this year and adding Chris Baker.

Looks like a solid pick up. It seems clear that Payton & Co already had him on our radar (be it from the draft, scouting, etc.) because of how quickly they moved to get him from NE when Billy went down. He was obviously high on their list (for a cheap price - 7th rounder)... Good work Loomis, Payton, & Co.

Ya, this man is really good. If J-Shock misses time for any reason, Dave Thomas can come right in and be a force. Thomas is just as big a receiving threat as Shockey, but not quite the blocker. But neither was Billy Miller, and we all how clutch he is.

We sure did get a gem in Thomas. Lets hope he stays healthy. Imagine this "heavy" package, 2 TEs J-Shock and Dave Thomas, with Heath Evens in the backfield with Mike Bell or PT. That can easily be a passing play. Man, we're just DANGEROUS.

I think the front office deserves a lot of credit.

Thomas, Sharper, Greer, Evans are all making big contributions.

strief at TE?! :smilielol:
i would kill to see that

Dude is versatile. blocks, catches, runs, special teams.......
H. Evans is the same type of player........

make your kill, then check out Sunday's game......Strief came in as #3 Te for several short yardage situations. I wouldnt think they would throw him a pass, but the dude stands 6'8", who knows?
